[The voice is faintly tinny, coming from the phone only to be picked back up as service switches over (unexpectedly) to the Network. And along with it comes the visual of a man looking straight at the camera, since he had been brooding over the screen.

The expression doesn't last, though; his chin snaps up in alarm, phone forgotten, at what ought to be a window overlooking Miami and not... Well, he doesn't know what. He turns to look over his shoulder, one side and then the other.

He grimaces slightly, and says in a soft voice:]

Well, that's an interesting complication.

You've certainly wasted no time getting to the heart of the matter. The truth of it is that none of us quite know. There seems to be some consensus that we were dragged here by a force beyond our understanding. Around here, most people call them Deities -- and they certainly call themselves that -- but I'm loathe to assign supernatural meaning to unpleasant circumstances.

That's a clever trick, isn't it? Or an exceptionally interesting hallucination. Both seem equally unlikely.

[Mao has been exploring buildings, looking for good places to establish safe houses for himself. He can't rely entirely on that one place of Hei's.

He catches a voice mentioning complications, and his curiosity is piqued. He strolls closer to check it out.]

[Isaak looks vaguely perplexed; he's lost, to say the least, but long habit has hold and he isn't going to panic. This is the last situation in which one would want to show weakness, after all. That said he is at a loss, and so he's scrolling through this newfound web service-- useless as it is-- on his phone.

The movement catches his eye, and he glances up; just a cat. Mouth set in a faint frown, he looks back at his phone.]

[Not a cutesy animal lover; that's always a relief. Mao hates the people who grab him for cuddles.

He ambles over. The man isn't standing close enough to anything for Mao to jump onto a higher surface to peek at his device, so in the contrary way of cats and spies, he rubs against the man's legs as though to demand affection.]

[He's really not in the warm squishy center business, cat. Still, at least Isaak doesn't swing too far the other way; he's never seen the purpose of idle cruelty, least of all to beasts. So he ignores the cat, mainly, though he does pause and look at it again when it bumps up against him.]

Friends in low places, [he mutters. But no scratches behind your ear, Mao.]

That rather depends on where here is. But it doesn't seem unlikely.

Here is the City, which exists in a self-contained universe that I have reason to believe was artificially created. Multiple places and time periods intersect here in a trans-dimensional hub that is, in theory, controlled by deities. This place is also temporally isolated from all other universes; a hundred years can pass here but, when you return home, no time will have passed at all.
