0199: Giving Thanks

I have a lot of things to be thankful for this year. For a while I kind of didn't think I would so much, but then I remembered just how lucky I am to have good friends and a little house I love and my greenhouse at the Library and just the Library itself, 'cause it really likes me and gosh, oh so many things!

Neil and Arthur and Merlin and Charlie and Saya and oh gosh, I can't start listing all of them 'cause I'll forget people and really you're all so wonderful!

Arthur, I'm especially thankful for you, but I was kind of shy to say just how much in front of everyone and besides it should just be between us, right? But anyway, I'm really really so glad you're you and that you like being with me.

Mmhhmm.

And I guess sometimes it's supernatural things that try to hurt me, but back home it was mostly regular people.

Or people everyone else thought were regular.

And what kind of defense against this do you have?

When I hear them thinking bad things I run away.

And what it it runs faster? Tracks better? Sees in the dark? Smells your fear?

Why are you trying to make me all scared?

If I were trying to scare you, I guarantee you, you wouldn't be able to form words.

I don't think I like talking to you.

A moment ago you were so sure of how nice I was.

And you wanted to be sure to prove me wrong.

You must be very sad inside. I'm sorry.

Very sad?

That's a very pretty picture to paint. The mean lady must be very sad.

Some people are mean because it suits them, little girl. And some names should not be called without thought to whom they might belong.

There has to be a reason why they got mean in the first place. Babies aren't.

And I guess you'll just have to know that if I'm talking to Saya I don't mean you.

And you think that reason is sadness. Is there a reason you're so stupid? Is that sadness?

Oh, no. Now I'll always think you're talking to me.
