[The camera flickers on to show Rose seated at a cafe with a cuppa and a book as she observes the people walking around.]

Loads of people up and about today. Sort of strange, yeah?

[A woman in a decidedly sequined showgirl dress wanders up, smiling at Rose.]

It is strange. They say we won't be here in the city after this weekend, though.

[Rose smiles back at the woman.]

Is that right? Odd. Maybe you will though. Do you remember how you got here?

No, I don't really remember. One minute I was on stage, the next minute, well...

[She gestures around.]

Here I am.

[Rose nods.]

That sort of seems like the pattern around here.

So are you an actress?

Oh, no, honey, I wish I were, but I'm a dancer.

[She smiles wistfully.]

Maybe someday I'll be an actress, though. So what're you?

[She studies the stranger for a second.]

The non-ballet sort, yeah?

Me?

[Rose bites her lip for a moment.]

I'm a traveller of sorts.

[She laughs.]

Right, definitely not the ballet kind.

A traveller? Ooh, I'm jealous. I've never been much of anywhere, really.

Still, reckon it's an interesting life, yeah?

[Rose gestures for the woman to take a seat if she chooses.]

Well former traveller before this place. It's a fun life. Getting to see planets and places. Oh? Been stuck in one place all your life?

Well, I wouldn't call it boring.

[She sits down gingerly, smiling at Rose.]

Stuck in two places my whole life. I grew up in New York, and now I live somewhere else. And I'm really stuck. But oh, that's depressing -- tell me about the nicest place you've been.

[The idea of someone seeing different planets doesn't seem to phase her much.]

I reckon it isn't.

[Rose smiles fondly for a moment at the mention of New York.]

No one is ever stuck well unless you're here that is. But then there's supposed to be some way out.

Would you like a cuppa?

The nicest place has to have been...

[Her voice trails off as she gathers her thoughts. There were so many places.]

There was this rocky alien planet...it had this long ridiculous name which escapes me. But blimey was it gorgeous! It had two suns and flying stingrays.

I don't think there is a way out for me. If I had my choice, I think I'd stay here. It doesn't seem bad so far.

[She smiles at the offer.]

I'd love some tea. It's nice, to just have a chance to sit. And to meet new people.

[Her eyes widen at the description of the planet.]

Flying stingrays? I'd've liked to see that...

Wait until you hear the ticking.

[Rose motions for the waiter and orders a second cup.]

Never thought they existed until then. It was really amazing. The beach was just...Well a sight to see!

[She looks over at the woman with bright eyes for a moment at the memory before returning to her cup of tea sadly. It was a long time ago for her.]

But of course that was some time ago. Do you enjoy your job?

Ticking? Is there a big clock here, or something?

[She nods her thanks for the tea, blowing on it gently to cool it down.]

My job... Well, nobody's here that knows me, I might as well be honest. It's all right. I wanted it to be a stepping stone to something else, but I got stuck. My own fault, I guess. I fell for the wrong man. Can you get any more cliched than that?

Something like that. Except it sort of follows you everywhere unless you're with people. Kind of gets in your head.

[Rose takes a sip of her tea as she listens.]

Maybe. It happens though. M'sorry. Maybe you can still find that something else or it can find you.

Is it magic, the clock? It sounds like it.

[She takes a small sip of her tea and shrugs sadly.]

Maybe. Do people remember this place when they go back home?

In a way. I guess you could say that. Especially with the curses.

[Rose frowns for a moment.]

Not, really no. Or so I've heard. I haven't gone back.

That's too bad. I'd like to remember it.

You might maybe, in your dreams, yeah?

What's your name? Don't think I caught it.

Maybe. That would be lovely.

[She smiles.]

Oh! I'm sorry. I got so caught up in talking to you I didn't even introduce myself. I'm Jasmine.

It alright. Sort of happens sometimes.

[Rose smiles back.]

Nice to meet you, Jasmine. My name's Rose. So what year are you from?

1956. I bet you're from the future, though. You seem so...

[She shrugs expressively.]

Strong.

Have you ever been to an Elvis concert?

I am, yeah.

[A small smile appears on her face.]

Thanks, I think. Sort of got no choice really.

[She tucks some strands of hair behind her ear.]

I'm from 2017.

No, never an Elvis concert. Other concerts, though.

[She smiles.]

2017? Really? What's it like?

Oh? Which ones?

It's a bit...think of everything you know where you're from and just flip it in reverse. It's a bit different.

I saw Frank Sinatra in concert once. It was really lovely.

[She smiles.]

I imagine it would be different. You've probably got all kinds of exciting things.

That's amazing! I wish I could have seen him!

[She grins.]

It's alright. Food tastes a bit different but the technology is brilliant. A bit fast really.

Well, I'll never see 2017, so I'll just have to take your word for it. I bet it's wonderful!

Never know though. But I wish I could've seen more of your time period.

It's all right. Just as well you never saw where I live, though. You wouldn't've liked it, I don't think.

Oh yeah? Is it that bad?

Well, it isn't good. You might like the look of the place, though. It's underwater, and I guess that's pretty beautiful.

Underwater? Well that is different! I bet it's amazing. Never really been to an underwater place before.

It's... lovely, at first, yes.

But then it gets dull, yeah? I can understand.

Do you go to the surface much?

Not at all, I'm afraid. We're not allowed to.

Oh? Why not?

'cause Mr. Ryan says we're not supposed to.

Mr. Ryan? Who is that? Boss? President?

[She laughs sadly.]

A little of both. Guess you could call him the CEO. The owner. The king of Rapture. Not that he'd wanna hear it. Anyway. We can't leave. So bein' here, well...

[She smiles.]

It's a nice break. Real sunshine.
