[Section of basement has been constructed into a false room. Wrought iron gate and arched double doors give an impression of a chapel - common sight in most castles. Location of said chapel is not at all odd, either. Many an old castle have theirs in the basement.

Doors' frosted glass hides a secret. The faint orange glow from the other side is not a mass's candles. Cross the threshold and what greets you is a stone passage way lit by carnelian crystals.

Follow its gently slopping path and enter the Underground.]

One does hope that is a request and not a command for One's appearance.

[Still ne does make nir way down to the basement to see just what all the fuss, mess, and everything has been about.]

[Someone's in a mood. The prudent response is to have the basement's main door open, be quietly waiting just within to lead the way, and keep a neutral expression.]

Was it worth the wait? You never did share what they were doing down here.

[Ne walks past him to take a look around, nir sight immediately caught by the doors.]

Pretty. Perhaps it was then.

[Strides up to the doors; doesn't open them.]

[smiles] There's more. [Steps aside to give Hatter the pleasure of 'unveiling' the new spacious connection.]

There's a smile when ne sees the tunnel though. Walking in, ne then turns to lean against the wall.]

[Follows in. Goes a short distance down the tunnel. His footfalls make no sound - intentional habit when Underground.] Enters into a branch. Right eventually runs alongside a Second level waterway. Enough distance between here and there, plus several large caverns in that area to act as natural drainage in case of flooding.

Left leads to outskirts of a First level red-light district.

[There's a raised eyebrow aimed his way at the red light district information.]

Suggesting this One would fit in there? Or is it, that you think One does need help to find those with which to play?

In all honesty [100% genuine], it's coincidence. That portion of tunnel has been long in existence. This [gestures about the orange gleaming passageway] is a completely new section tapping into an old thoroughfare. Speaking of which, it sees little traffic from either direction. Desolate stretch on the right doesn't entice many visits from the left.

[Luckily for Luke, ne's willing to believe him. It'd be a shame to test out the strength of the walls in regards to an explosion. Even if nir feathers weren't as powerful as at home they still packed enough to hurt.]

Curious stone. What is it?

[It's the truth. That's the only preexisting tunnel close enough to access from within the castle. The rest are well outside the foundation.]

Got privacy. If you wanted any Underground orders to be delivered using this route, they'd come from the right. Waterway has a port. Be a bit pricey due to the castle's 'far off' location.

Limestone infused with carnelian. The company likes to use the closest quarry to a project. Crystals bond better with the site when both are of the same general area.

[Moves to a lamp]. These are the main source of light. Larger crystals inside generate, the granules in stone reflect. They're set to perpetual twilight. Need to increase the wattage flips a switch on the lamp's side. Becomes noticeably brighter, about on level with what humans have on average in bathrooms.] Wired for common electricity.

[Ne walks over and turns the lights back down.]

One does wonder who picked out the stones? And if the stones hold the same uses here as at home? It's supposed to be useful for many things. Stimulating the appetite. Increasing power and balance. Courage for difficulties. Guarding against theft, fire, storm or accident.

It's even said to help with fertility and potency. Or to rekindle a fading romance.

Different crystals are throughout the Underground. The ones around here are carnelian, hence why they were chosen.

As for having more than one use: Yes. [Takes a small polished amethyst from his pocket. Taps a simple code; purple glow. Taps again; shuts off.] Emergency flashlight. More learned others can do a far wider range of things, such as healing.

[Slips the amethyst back into pocket.] I'm able to sense them - bit like a low pulse. Quite handy as directional markers and finding water, sometimes food as well.

One used to be a healer,[once upon a time, several millennia before; how ne met Raphael] which is why One's humble self knows the other uses.

Amethyst is for chasing away pain and nightmares. [The better uses.] Also, the Archangel Michael.

But One was discussing the uses of carnelian. Was it chosen for a reason other than it is pretty?

No, just the one I stated [100% truth, picked cause it was local.].

[Amused 'humph'] Back in the homeworld, crystals are nothing more than pretty stones with a great deal of New Age bullshit attached. Couldn't sense one from a beer can.

Here? They're alive in a way. Can switch to something else, the carnelian will cooperate but may protest a bit.

Even New Aged beliefs have some truth attached to them. Most are just a rediscovery of ancient ones.

No. It is pretty, and there's no chance of the properties working anyway so they might as well stay. [Pretty but worthless. Familiar.]

They do here, though. Maybe not everything attributed, but they do.

[Thoughtful] Simple wards are on the doors. If you wanted to add extra security, carnelian could be put to the task.

One doubts they will assist with fertility and there is no faded romance to concern over.

The wards will be amended but for that, well...One does still have One's magic which is trusted over all others.

Crystals are in heavy use on lower levels. Play an important part in the Underground environments. With so much potential power on hand, makes sense the City would apply restriction. [Small smile.] Can't have an Underground uprising.

Or, City collected the most benign/powers already watered down.
