[ It hurts to hear that; he knows what this is about, and while part of him wishes that Elliot would just leave it alone, not pry into things, it can't end well-- he also knows that this is something Elliot deserves to know. He's been lying and hiding the truth for so long, and even if he thinks-- even if he knows-- it's for Elliot's own good, it's obvious that not everyone shares that sentiment.

[There's a time to be civil, and a time to yell. Elliot thinks it might not hurt if he tries the former, again, see how far it gets him this time. But he's tired, of people hiding things and treating him like nothing but a child, and he's honestly not sure how much more he can take.]

For Elliot's temporary sense of relief, to satisfy some need in himself to apologize and to keep apologizing because he can't erase what's happened, this is only splashing paint over a gaping hole and praying that it holds for some amount of time, however long he can feel that he isn't the worst person in the world. ]
