[Today, Miss Anna is accompanied by a pair of kittens, one orange and one grey. Their names are, respectively, Biscuit and Danish. She has them out in the park with her, letting them chase after leaves and tussle with one another. All in all, she seems quite calm and content today.]

[ We interrupt this picturesque scene with a cold finger trailing up Anna's nape. The intruder appears at her side as if by magic. ]

Enjoying the fresh air?

[ A big jacket, loosely slung across his shoulders, hides Karl's empty right sleeve. His eyes aren't on Anna, but the kittens. ]

[She jerks still at the hand on her neck, but when she hears his voice, she refuses to jump up. She still turns over quickly, shuffling back from him in the grass with a frown.]

Wh~at?

[ He retreats a step, only to settle loose-limbed and indolent on a bench. The look he gives Anna is the same humans would offer the kittens. An indulgence for something small and delicate. ]

[ Something to toy with. ]

[She watches him with a frown.]

I wish you would not sneak up on me like that.

[ He huffs, all hauteur and nonchalance. ]

Should I wear a little bell, then?

[She's still frowning, keeping half an eye on the cats as she wraps her arms around her knees.]

You could just say hello.

[Not that she wants him to, just that it would be preferable to being touched.]

[ He smirks at her, head-tilted. ]

But if I did, you'd either ignore me or run away. [ Eyeing the kittens. ] Isn't one of those Ariadne's?

[Elliot has not gotten out quite enough in the past several days, largely due to the City's unpredictability, so he's decided today to go for a stroll in the park. He expects it to be short, a circuit around the greens before he heads back, but what he doesn't account for is the presence of kittens.

Very cute kittens.

He can't help but stop and watch them play, eyes following them as they dart here and there.]

Are they yours?

[For the most part, his voice is aloof and polite, but if she listens carefully, she can probably hear the faint twinge of jealousy/

[Anna is always on the alert, no matter how calm she seems, a habit from a difficult life, but she does not react overtly when he first stops, only lifting her head to meet his eye when he actually speaks to her. Her smile is faint (untrusting, but polite.)]

The orange cat, Biscuit, belonged to a friend of mine, until recently. She's left the city. I'm happy she thought of me before she was gone.

[It's more of a perfunctory apology than anything else; he doesn't know this woman well enough to give anything more heartfelt. Still, Elliot has a certain sense of decorum, at least in most situations.

A little unconsciously, he crouches down so he can see the cats at a better angle.]

They seem like a lot to manage.

[She gives a limp little smile at his consolation.]

I have quite a bit of help with them. They accompany me to the community centers when I volunteer.

[Huh, that distracts him from the kittens for a brief moment.]

They allow cats in there?

Well-behaved ones.

[She gets a look for that comment, but it's short-lived as he returns his attention to the kittens and reach outs to gently pet one of them.]

Is it hard, taking care of them?

[Mindy's out with Mocha. Mocha is not interested in kittens, just Mindy's shoes which she keeps chewing on. Mindy's stepping around the dog with expert ease, though. A dancers grace, almost.

When she sees Anna with the kittens, she smiles and heads over, keeping a slight distance as Mocha sits by her feet.]

Those kittens are so cute.

[Anna smiles up at her faintly, pausing in dangling a fallen leaf in front of Biscuit. He pounces triumphantly while Danish considers pouncing on him in kind.]

I was not expecting to take in another, but I don't mind it.

[Uhura is out for a walk, and thinking that she really needs to go out clothes shopping. Skirts as short as her uniform are not common here.

She can't remember how long it's been since she's been planetside. Or since she's seen so much animal life. When she catches sight of Anna and her kittens, she can't help smiling.]

Your cats are precious!

[Anna is not always the most confident with strangers, but she can do a good job of hiding it, looking up at the woman with a somewhat limp but ultimately friendly expression.]

Thank you, they make for good company.

[Uhura recognizes the signs of shyness and wants to put the young woman at her ease.]

Do you mind if I pet them?

I don't mind at all.

[She does sit back a little, however, leaving space between herself and Uhura.]

And I'm certain they won't.

[Anna points to each of the cats in turn, orange to grey.]

This is Biscuit, and this is Danish.

[Uhura kneels down, gracefully tucking her legs behind her before reaching out to scratch Biscuit behind the ears.]

It's nice to meet you two. My name's Uhura.

[Politeness is an armor for Anna, keeps her grounded where she would otherwise be growing increasingly paranoid.]

My name is Anna Assaoui.

[Uhura doesn't often have chances to practice her French, but she's always loved the way it rolls off her tongue, and she can't resist switching to French when say it's a pleasure to meet her and asking if she's from France.]
