Ruining an attempt at a pile (Yusuf has never been big on that thing called "manual labor" and the rake is a rather confusing lawn instrument ) is Pancake, of whom you must all be either thoroughly enamored or, at the very least, inundated with. From offscreen comes Yusuf's voice, ] I wonder how many of these are curse-modified stratum corneum...

For what it's worth, I appreciate the seasons the City affords. Mombasa doesn't see a Fall season, so raking leaves and parsing out the heat function on the thermostat is still novel to me.

[ A pause, in which Pancake fails utterly to see himself as a hinderance to the raking process. ] Not sure what I'm supposed to do once they're all raked up, but I suppose we surmount one obstacle at a time...

He's a corgi breed, but yes he is a fairly simple dog.

It's all his nefarious plot to get more treats, I am an innocent bystander. [ This, at least, is entirely honest. Pancake didn't invent puppy eyes but he's got enough charm that he doesn't need that kind of originality. ]

Oh, no, actually, Pancake is my colleague's- well, actually, my friend's dog. He's just terribly jealous that I got to go outside.

[ Aaaaand for clarification: ] Pancake, not my friend.

A friend of mine has a polar-bear dog, but Naga's a lot bigger than Pancake there. He might also prove too handsome and break her heart.

[ The image of Arthur's eternally unamused face springs to mind, and Yusuf has to asume the amusement that comes with that is a conditioned response. It must be tough being the only serious one in the house.

But, for the sake of arguing, ] He's lying in my leaf pile; the second he sees a squirrel he's going to revoke his Deserves A Treat status.

She sure is. Taller than most people, too. All the animals back home are two-parts, it's really strange seeing a single type in the city here, like Pancake.

With that, I can agree entirely. [ A sage nod- but if you kind of squint and look at it from an angle it certainly looks more smug than sage. ]

Though, I suppose everyone enjoys jumping in a pile of freshly raked leaves, yes?

How interesting... The ecological implications of niche habitation must be quite interesting where you come from. Are polar-bear dogs usually domesticated or is your friend braver than most?

I can't say I've done much of it myself as a city-girl, but perhaps I should.

[ He deserves the right to be smug, he's dog-sitting like a pro. ]

The name sounds familiar, but I can't say we know each other.

You'd know her if you saw her. Brown hair, tanned, blue shirt and a fur pelt. Ringing any more bells?

Truthfully I've never done it either, where I come from it is far too hot most of the year to facilitate a seasonal change in the foliage. Mostly it's hot, and when it isn't, it's rainy. [ Though the description may not sound charming, it's clear from the way Yusuf says them that he was never bothered with the state of affairs back home. After all, why would someone call it home if they didn't love it? ]

That isn't to say I would advise against it, since the City is being relatively lenient today.
