[ Jamie grins - Mae cooking and working? Whoda thunk. ] And you're now a productive member of society, too? Wow, Mae, you are leaving me in the dust here.

He's...tall?

[She's finally there; she can see him on the bench. She device gets turned off and stuffed in the pocket of her jacket, and runs; doesn't stop running until she's hugging him tight enough to rob him of his breath for a moment. His words swim in her head, over and over, little fish of bright colours.]

I'd rather be unproductive with you than working nine to five and coming home to cats.

[ Jamie hugs Mae back just as tightly - he's only just seen her, really, but he knows what this place is like, and he knows how much he missed her when it had just been him and Alan, too. And if she's the only one from their world there now... he doesn't want to think about how hard that is. ]

Well... how about we just try to be as unproductive as possible? [ The curse usually lasts for a few days, right? ] Unless, of course, that will get you fired.

There was no way I was going to do anything else. [She hugs him for a while longer, silent; then pulls away to take a good look. She's been dreading to think about what might be happening back in Exeter, or London, or wherever they are. She dreads thinking about Jamie, who left with the magicians - knows herself well enough to know that she would've followed, one way or another. Maybe she should confirm what she knows.]

Me? Fine, with a side of dandy. [ His arms drop to his side, and he frowns a little. ] I got back to mum showing off her expertise with the golf club, and then... we were going to London. All of us. Mum even got out her fencing sword! I thought I was going mad, to be honest.

[ ... so no, he still does not know what awaits in his future. ] But how have you been?

[He doesn't know. Doesn't know just how far their mother is going to show them that she loves them. Doesn't know what'll happen with the magicians in the end. Doesn't know that her plan will fail and everything will change, again. And Mae doesn't have it within her to erase that smile off his face, even if he might end up resenting her for the secrecy.

She wishes Alan was here, so she could tell him that she understands, now. That she's sorry for the hypocresy.]

I've been okay...filling up time. Gathering an army of eye candy and party friends. If you take out the curses and the fact that the people I feel the closest to aren't even here...it's almost like home. Before everything.

Eye candy, you say? Do tell. [ It's relevant to both their interests, okay. ] But you're right. It was sort of the same when I was here before, except for the part where I never went to school.

{ Even if the curses and the people she cares about most not being there are pretty big deals. ]

[Talking about boys with Jamie is definitely a good way of spending the day. She's going to be the strong one here, if Jamie ends up leaving - because he'd been in the City a long time, too, without her company. She'd just be grateful for this. And miss him, later.]
