[Wilson's going about his business as usual today, because honestly this sort of day just doesn't faze him anymore. Aspects of it can be irritating, disconcerting, or even dangerous, but not nearly any more so than most other curses. So he's stopped at an admittedly crowded cafe near the hospital after leaving, coffee and a sandwich before him while he looks over a patient file. After making a few notes, he puts the file down to make the following audio post to the network - ]

I learned, several of... these back [ - because the populace doesn't really have a concise term for them - ], that there isn't really much point in trying to avoid the masses. Besides, if you do that, you're likely to have missed out on an opportunity to speak to people you would have been happy to see - faces from home, those who have left the City, even those who only visit on these days but do so with enough regularity to have developed personal connections.

So, as a curse, this isn't inherently good or bad. It has the potential to be either - or both, but it's the people who come, the interactions we have, that make it what it is. In a way, that makes it not entirely unlike any other day - there are just a lot more faces than usual.

It's good to see you. We've... been here a while.

[He means that; he knows that a familiar face is a welcome sight when you wind up in the City, but after you've been here for years, seeing one that you haven't seen for even longer...

He'd like to ask when she came from, what was happening - and he will, of course, but it hardly seems like a topic he should go right into. So he smiles, gesturing to a side.]

'He's in high spirits' is something you say about a hyperactive toddler. I'm not offended, but I'm interested you didn't assume I was just pleased to see you.

I think I can manage to strategically plant it. They're going to adore him.

[He smirks at her over the edge of the page, though he's simultaneously musing on how normal this feels - not usual or typical by any means, given that these weekends only come up every few months, but somehow perfectly right.]

Oh? I do have a decent savings of technicolor dream money in the bank...

[Not that it's that bad. She looks away to slip the folder back into her bag, then stands to size him up, wondering exactly what a while means.]

[It's hard to characterize this impossible place, which is why she hesitates. Also why she can't help but be a bit doubtful.]

[It's said in a light, well-humored tone, so it sounds perfectly normal coming from him. And, at the moment, it's true. If she's here for a day or two, there's no reason to go into the dark, sordid details.]

I hope you didn't get pulled away from anything too pressing - not that you'll notice having been gone when you go back, but I know it can be frustrating.

Exactly. Typically it's the result of a natural process, but... like many natural processes, it doesn't work quite the same way here.

I'd say the most notable thing is that the mountain wasn't here when I arrived - though the island itself has also certainly grown in the time I've been here.

Not much works the way I'm accustomed to here. That was a fast growing mountain, then.

We're on an island? I didn't even know that much. Most of what people want to explain about is the curses, not the terrain. I've wanted to explore the place, but every time I think I'm ready, I find myself cursed again.

Somehow, I doubt anyone's accustomed to the way things work here.

It's large, but it is an island... [And with a bit of concern,] Parts of the City, though, can be very dangerous. Just... make sure that you're mindful of that if and when you do go exploring.

That's true.... But some people seem to have adjusted, even if by apathy.

[Frowns to that.] Like the Underground? The guide I found did mention that.

It's not what I left that has me unsettled.

[That in a quieter tone. She isn't easy to rattle, and she's good at keeping it under wraps when she is; but under the circumstances, who could be at ease?]

You'll have to show me around after, so I can see all the fun I'm missing.

I'm not sure they adjust so much as learn to accept the City's impossibilities out of necessity.

[He nods slightly.] There's the wilderness surrounding the City, which can be dangerous... though, not quite as much so as the Underground, at least during daylight.

That's probably a better way of putting it. It is a necessity to survive here, to deal with it. Everyday threatens to be strange or odd. It's better to just accept it.

I was warned off the Underground, but the wilderness I haven't heard much of.... Are there creatures out there at night?

Exactly; refusing to accept the impossible as the impossible continues to happen isn't terribly productive.

From my understanding, there are creatures and possibly some of the City's less upstanding citizenry. It's certainly possible to go there and not run into anything dangerous, of course, but caution is never a bad idea.

Then the possibility of going home shouldn't be considered impossible, either.

If I do go to the wilderness, I'll do so during the day. Though it doesn't sound like there's much reason to go out there.
