[ When the feed clicks on, there's only Ianto in the town center. He looks like he's just been running for his life - which technically, he had only moments ago. His face is bleeding and dingy as he searches his surroundings. While the scenery is currently different, and he's not being shot at, he's not taking a chance. Finally after a minute of fumbling, he speaks. The man's voice has a deep Welsh lit to it, and there is definitely a sense of confusion hidden somewhere in it.]

I - hello?

[ ... quietly, more of an observation to himself: ] This doesn't look like Cardiff anymore.

Right. I'm either very concussed - or this is the work of the Rift. I honestly think in this case I'd prefer the former. But with current luck standing the way it is...

[Sigh. He's still wary and alert, looking around for anything, but nothing is familiar here. No stinking pile of rubble where the Hub had been. Just an unfamiliar city.]

I'm gathering this is a phone of some sort, and someone is out there who can hear this - so I'd appreciate someone telling me where I am.

[ooc: so, Ianto is new and just arriving but hit him up with fourth wall stuff and confuse him even more if you want to. Duplicates. Face twins. Whatever. Just don't tell him he's fictional.]

You're not very concussed. M'not sure what you mean by the Rift but you're in the City.

[Relief, however slight. Gwen is here. Wherever here is.]

Gwen. What's going on, where are we?

You're in the City. That's just what it's called. No other real name for it. You... might be stuck here for a while, or you could just be visiting for a few days. Seems to be a popular place.

Where are you? What's happened?

It's...complicated. Nevermind.

I can see it's a city. It's just not one I'm familiar with.

[He isn't interested in you, Ianto. He's interested in the word 'rift'. Although, he might eventually find you very interesting if just for your knowledge.]

Rift?

[Oh, hi! This is a brunette, wide-eyed and smiling staring back at you through the video device. Although as she sees the condition Ianto is in her expression does turn a little bit concerned.]

This place is called The City. Lamest of all the lame names, right? Like, come up with something more original or noteworthy. The City? Yeah. Anyway, it's like a pocket dimension that pulls people from all over the place in. And you're in! With us. Which could be good or bad... depending on where and what you came from.

Just the City. Pocket dimension sorta thing. 'Least that's the best way I know to describe it.

The City. [The incredulous tone in his voice, can you hear it.] For a popular spot, I've never heard of it. Not on my list of top vacation spots, that's for sure.

[He's only just seen you five minutes ago, Gwen. But you don't remember what just happened? Confusion.] I dunno exactly... There's a fountain nearby.

It's popular as of yesterday. Wouldn't be on your list yet.

I'll be there in a few minutes.

So... what's been happening back home?

[He almost didn't respond. Ianto had shown up last time there were 'visitors' in the city too. It had hurt to lose him again and he didn't want that to happen again.

It had been so long since he'd seen Ianto's face, though...he couldn't resist, though, he kept his tone nuetral and slightly reserved.]

Ianto. You're in The City. It's a different dimension.

So we're in an entire other dimension, then? Makes as good of sense as any, I suppose. [Blows out a breath.]

Kind of in the middle of something, yeah.

The Rift. Special attraction in Cardiff, a tear in time and space. Not sure how or why it's there, it just is.

Well the good thing about pocket dimensions and specifically The City, is that when it sends you home, it sends you exactly where it pulled you from. So you can do the whole unfinished business thing if you really want to. Personally, I like the lack of apocalypses here. It's like a nice little vacay from the threat of imminent death.

A tear in time and space. How interesting. Have you ever been through that tear to worlds unknown?

Not normally this crowded, then?

The children. They - it's like they all stopped, or something. Then someone just tried to blow us all up. I ran, then slipped and wound up here.

Not nearly so crowded.

Ianto, you might not believe some of the things I'm going to tell you, but I swear they're the truth. This is a pocket dimension of some sort, but as far as I can tell, we didn't get here thanks to the rift. Time isn't the same here, either. If and when you go back, it's to the same instant you left and you more than likely won't remember what happened.

Also, people are here from different worlds and times. I'm... from well ahead of then. All that's already happened for me. In fact, I think I'm ahead of Jack, even...

Jack, hi. [If Ianto notices the somber, neutral tone, he doesn't point it out. The fact that he'd heard from Jack and Gwen since arriving here is a good sign, right? Even if they're not back home, at least they're together.

He'd expected to see the other man in a completely different condition, considering the way they'd parted.]

Always thought a different dimension would look a bit... different.

So we're stuck?

'fraid not. It's not really something we can control, when and where we'd end up. Most of the time, things tend to get dropped on us.

So I would go right back as if I were never brought here?

No imminent death around every corner. That's already a step up from back home.

Pocket dimension?

Yep! Exactly. Only you should probably know that there are some curses that we all get plagued with every now and then. Most of them just seem to be about social experiments with us all. Oh, and that ticking, it gets louder when you don't get all social with the populace, another experiment, I think.

Instability and uncertainty, neither viable for traveling between worlds.

Humanity is so surprising though, the way they continue to exist in spite of the tendency for things to get dropped on them. Perhaps if they weren't so curious about those rifts...

This is the City, pitiful name, unimaginative.
