The Dragon's closed for the weekend because no one wants to work triple shifts. If you want to feed the turtleducks in the pond out back, that's fine, but they bite if you're not fast enough! [ Which Toph finds hilarious, of course. ]

--But now to the important stuff. Where is everybody? Twinkletoes, Snoozles, Sugar Queen? It's visit weekend and you missed the last one, so you owe me. I'm going to the park. Meet me there.

[ She crouches down to say hello. ] If you want to get bitten, that's your choice. But I don't think it's a great idea.

[ The cat leans up to sniff at Toph's face. Toph seems safe, so maybe it'll take its chances with the turtle ducks. ]

[ So the thing is, it's just voice, but even with so many years removed it's familiar. The nicknames are familiar too - her world renowned mother having held onto them into their collective twilight - much to Avatar Aang's resigned chagrin. It doesn't take a genius of any kind to slot the pieces together. But Lin is hardly in her own prime and some things are harder to believe because they were true but aren't true anymore. Whatever happens in what she has been told (by so many sources it's hard to argue, at least immediately) is a world between worlds will not follow her out. Where Lin Bei Fong lives, where she serves and protects, her mother is still gone.

It's some time before she taps into the network, wishing she had a better idea of what she wanted out of it than just to talk to her again - a younger version, any version. Still Toph. Still mother. ]

"Visit weekend"? How often does this kind of thing happen?

[ Lin doesn't trust many people, never has. As a result she has never truly known many people either. But those she knows, she'd know anywhere, just about any way one could imagine. Toph sounds young and cocky but Lin can hear the other things - loneliness, that feeling of being left behind, and pitted beneath all of it: hope.

She's well acquainted with it herself. ]

[ Poor Lin. From this side of Toph's life, Lin isn't even an idea yet, a possibility that may one day come to fruition. She isn't a mother yet, and will probably never consider herself a good one. But those days are to come. ]

About once a season, I guess. Just often enough that you get jealous of the people who get to come and go so easily. I guess you're a newbie?
