That's the traditional way to celebrate birthdays, I'd say-- though really, it's not like there's a wrong way...

It seems to be the way it's done in movies but I don't know if I've every paid much attention otherwise.

I just mean, you should spend your birthday doing something you like. There's no reason to follow traditions unless you enjoy them. Some people like parties, some people prefer it to be quiet.

I think I want cupcakes. You get your own that way, and anyway what would I do with a whole cake? Besides eat most of it, which probably isn't the best idea.
