Things would have been a great deal simpler if he hadn't.

Simple isn't always better though, less entertaining, kind of boring. So he added a little spice to your plan, maybe even to your life. It's alright. Besides, I think there's some cliche quote about how the best laid plans always fail or something similar. Just be glad this one did and that you got to experience what you experienced with him.
