[A hand fumbles in front of the camera, then pulls back to show a teenage girl who is looking very confused and a bit scared.]

Where am I? What's going on here?

[She looks around her, then back to the camera. Bringing it closer to her face to better examine it, she narrows her unique eyes, one green, one gold.]

Is this some kind of sick joke? Did you do this, mother?

[The last word is spit out harshly. This is so not a happy mother-daughter relationship.]

I don't know what your angle is this time, but I don't want to talk to you. Send me home right now!

[She's not sure what to say. Telling Ethan what she was has to have been one of the hardest things she's ever done, and he had already seen enough to know something was up with her and her family. This girl just knows from the get go.]

I'm Lena. What's your name?

So... you said my mother didn't do this. You were brought here too?

Half the people here were brought. Some of us have been here a long spell.

Most people last about a year.

[Her brow furrows as she tries to hold it together. Eden's giving her good info now, but it seems dependent on whether she thinks Lena's being stupid or not. Okay, she can deal, she just needs to learn all she can and work on a plan from there.]

By last, do you mean die?

No. I mean they go home.

If you die you just come back a day later, but dead. Then you're stuck.

[Okay, that sounds crazy. Luckily, Lena's used to a little crazy. Her uncle came back from the dead, after all.]

Wow, okay that's-- yeah. Uh, so is there like a purpose to this? For why we're here.

[She looks up and away. She's quiet for a moment, and then reaches out with her mind to see if her boyfriend is there. He doesn't answer her.]

Is there anything else that's need-to-know here?

[Sigh. Eden hates the intro speech]

Curses. There's one every few days. It's not real magic, you can't stop it.

Curses.

[She gives the phone a blank stare, followed by a confused look.]

What happens?

In four and a half years, better question is what doesn't happen.

Yesterday people hugged cats.

There was a curse that made people want to hug cats.

I guess that's better than a curse that makes people want to kill each other.

[She's still not 100% sure she believes her, but stranger things have happened in her own life.]

[Her speech is a little stilted here, as she tries to form her thoughts into words.]

Are those like, actual deities, or just what people call them?
