Hey. Uh.

[Off to a great start, Jack.]

I was wondering... I'm not really much of a conversationalist, but, uh. Does anyone know how I could...you know, get better at it? Talking to people, I mean.

I feel like it's something I need to work on.

I lived in England once. Many, many moons ago. Too many. [She laughs and turns back to the conversation.] What did you do in Kansas other than run from tornados?

Heh, well... I didn't really do much of anything other than help out on my parents' farm. If I did anything else, I don't remember.

What was it like in England? [See, he's getting better at this. Maybe.]

[She shrugs.]

Couldn't really tell you. I only lived there for two weeks and I spent most of them partying. I did like the club scene.

That sounds like it must've been fun... I've never done much partying myself, though. I think.

No clubs in Kansas? Okay, I can see that, but you work in a bar now. You have to attend at least one a week.

[This won't end well.]

[No, no it will not.]

Really? [He doesn't know what to make of this.] Uh... Are there really that many parties going on?

You live in a city. There's at least one party for every building every hour in this place.

[And she should know. She's probably attended each one. Twice.]

[He laughs at that, though it's a little uneasy.]

The last city I spent any time in wasn't all that jumping. [Or maybe it was, but not nearly in the same way.]

Well, remember what Dorothy said.

[It takes him a second to get it, but he laughs again when he does.]

Too bad I didn't bring Toto with me.

Uh. [And he thought he was on a roll.] You, uh... You really think so?

[She has to laugh. He's kind of quirky and strange, yet adorable.]

It's a dog. Name a dog Toto and it'll answer.

Oh. [Oh. Of course that's what she meant. Of course. Look at him now, no awkwardness here.] Uh. Right.

I don't know how my roommate would feel about a dog, though...

Oh, who do you live with? Maybe I know them and can convince them into letting you get one.

His name's Turlough. [A pause.] He's not, uh...the easiest guy to get along with.

Not familiar with him, but what's the harm in asking him? The worst he can say is no, Jack. Or maybe no dog and yes to cats. Or no dogs and no cats, but he's okay on gerbils.

I don't know... [He rubs the back of his neck.] It just seems like a bridge that'd be easier to cross whenever we actually get to it.

Well, considering you're already roommates with the guy, I think you crossed that bridge and burned it down behind you.

Plus remember, conversation. It's another topic you can use on him.

Maybe, but... I'm pretty sure he and I don't really have the same idea of "conversation".

[Then again:] Might not hurt to give it a try, though.

Well, unless he's deaf, mute, a combo of the two, or doesn't speak English, it's always worth a try.

[She smiles at something just off screen before smiling back at him.]

Anything else you want to talk about? You're better at this conversation thing than you thought.
