[The newest of the ginger companions is lounging on his bed in the welcome centre. He still has his school uniform on. He's rather inclined not to take it off, after all. It looks like it may be an accidental post until he turns his icey-blue eyes on the camera.]

You know, I believe I dislike this place's timing. I spent years trying to get out of that dreadful school on Earth, and the minute I turn up in this 'City' it tries to send me right back. Very hilarious. My side are positively splitting.

[He finally decides to sit up, throwing his spindly legs over the side of the bed.]


I have been informed that if I want to move out of this 'welcome centre' place, I need to find a job first. I've had quite enough of shared accommodation, thank you. Normally I'd say I'm well shot of jobs as well, but it seems the lesser of two evils.

So. Who's hiring?

[Jack tries not to look too relieved at that. Then he realizes he's been asked a question.]

Uh... Well, no. [That wasn't a yes or no question.] It's like I said. I needed a roommate, and...you seemed like you could use some help.

[Oh. Must be the pity angle, then. Not his favourite. Still, one he can bring around.]

So do a lot of people in the City, it seems like.

[Jack has to think about that one.]

Well... I haven't really talked to any of them. [He starts to lift a hand to rub the back of his neck, but then thinks better of it.] And to be honest, Turlough, it didn't seem like anyone else was going to be quick to give you a hand.

[Turlough slinks over again with the pretense of fiddling with something or other on the table next to Jack until suddenly he's very much in the taller man's personal space. He tilts his head up, studying him inquisitively.]

That's because I don't play well with others. I read all my psychological assessments at school, they were very enlightening. I have a caustic personality, apparently.

[Whoa, hello. Jack is visibly surprised at first, but he doesn't step back, not yet.]

I'd guessed as much, yeah.

[Oh good. He likes it when they pretend like it doesn't bother them. He leans in the tiniest fraction more.]

Which makes you interesting, comparatively. I don't know of anyone who'd want someone like me in their home without a good reason for it.

[Jack isn't so much bothered as he is wondering what the heck is up with this guy.

Well, okay, maybe he is a little bothered. Just a little. But only because Rapture had him trained to expect only the worst when it came to violations of personal space.]

I've had to deal with worse than people being rude. [Much worse.] And I believe that even people with caustic personalities deserve a little help when they need it.

[Turlough does respond, but he's on the other side of the room in not too much time.]

Is this room mine, then?

Uh. [The fact that he's out of Jack's personal space is something of a relief, but his next question seems a bit odd to him.] No, this is just the living room. There's a spare bedroom down the hall.
