Hi. I'm Sam Winchester, and I'm new. There's not much to know, really. I'm not sure what else to say. Does anyone having the English homework?

Mercy was sitting on the steps reading a book in the sun with one eye out for Sam so she could give him the copy of her notes that she'd made.

He recognized her instantly and walked up to her. "Hey," he said. "Mercy, right?" It was nice of her to offer. He'd found that, in most schools, there were people like her.

"That's me," she said, standing up and offering him a hand. "Sam, I presume. Nice to meet you."

He shook it. She was taller than him. Most people were. "Nice to meet you," he said. "Thanks for, you know. Replying."

"No problem. It's hard trying to catch up - especially at the end of a semester." Mercy smiled at him. "I'm just glad I could help."

Sam smiled wider. He never realized how much he'd learned not to trust people--until he did, and was surprised. "Yeah, you did. Thanks. I'll bring these back."

"Oh, don't worry, that's a copy I made for you," Mercy said. "I didn't want you to have to worry about it. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't come back and talk or whatever, okay?"

She smiled at him welcomingly.

"Okay." He spoke slowly, as if not quite believing her, but then he smiled. Because he did believe her. "Thanks. I think I'm gonna like this school."
