So we're being inundated with these 'tourists' again, it seems. I suppose it has been rather quiet of late.

It's rather unexpected, though--so far as I can tell. Generally, there's some 'occasion' for such an event, whether a holiday or some ordeal. I suppose surviving the ordeals of the City are cause enough for celebration.

I believe the last time we had such a visitation we had just chased a peculiar lady who called herself the 'Mother Monster' and her apparent nemesis by the name of 'Captain Space' out of the City. Granted, that wasn't entirely as it seemed--was there another such surge of visitors some time after that? Still, it almost never fails, you know. We endure some catastrophe in the City and, shortly thereafter, we are inundated with visitors. It's almost as though it's some sort of necessary process to restore balance in the City. I'm told that the Animal Trinity had recently concluded their work in the City when I arrived and, very shortly thereafter, I had my first such encounter with these sorts of tourists and visitors.

But this time, though, it seems there's been no ordeal at all. Indeed, as everyone noted, the first part of January was distinctly quiet with no curses to speak of. Perhaps we ought to be on our guard. First such quiet and now something such as this. I'd be cautious.

And I'm not addressing the visitors in that regard, though they would do well to be careful.

I never manage to do as I say--to keep to myself, well inside, away from the windows and the Network, and all the rest. It never seems to work entirely, if only because it's rather difficult to keep away from all windows and it does become rather tedious. To say nothing of the fact that there are a few people who seem quite capable of coming into the opera house as they please, despite all our efforts to the contrary. And I don't think warning them about He-Who-Kills will do any good either.

I shall, however, keep a close watch for Merry. I haven't much hope or wish for anyone else from my world to pay me a call. And I needn't watch for Riff this time, which is a mercy unto itself.

Although, there are yet others who seem to come into the City on days like this whom I should still like to see, even if I may not quite hope for it as I did with Riff and now with Merry so long ago and so often.

The little clutch of girls is back under my window, as I knew they would be. I think I'd be rather disappointed if they weren't there. It's rather flattering. I shall be tossing them letters thsi time, and I do hope they see this on the Network so that they'll be able to catch them. It would be a shame to have them fall to the ground unheeded.

It's quite time I tried something a little different in all this madness. And I've seen all of this more times that I think many have. As I said, I wasn't here in the City for a week before it happened to me for the first time.

And, yes, exciting as it always is at first, I know I'll be quite exhausted after a few moments of it. But these tourists certainly won't mind or care. They really can be rather like insects in the way they can find their way into anywhere or anything.

So I think I shall be a fool today and show my face after all. But at least I'm quite aware of my own foolishness. And perhaps there's something clever in that.

Though why anyone would visit the City, I shall never understand.

Perhaps, although perhaps I'm recommending that others play hard-to-get with their temptations. Maybe I'll just provide that temptation for them.

I think it's a good name, personally. There are worse ones to have.

I can think of a few, I believe.

It took me a while to grow into mine. I didn't like it for a long time, and couldn't understand why everyone was so attached to it.

It's Christopher. But these days I mostly go by Kit.

I don't see anything particularly wrong with that name--with either of them.

When you're nine years old and wanting desperately to be as grown up as possible, being named after a baby fox doesn't come off as the most attractive of names.

Like I said, I grew into it. It suits me better now than my real one does, I think.

Well, seeing as I'm neither an emperor nor a king, it's only to be expected that she would be.

I suppose that is true. But you still knew that I'd met her, which is a little unusual.

She may yet, but I wonder if what she'll find is precisely what she's looking for.
