Amusing then, if true, to believe himself so loved yet find himself unwanted.

He was the object of ridicule here for the most part.

The latter. She said a few things in passing and eventually not at all. Too painful to talk about those who left her, I suppose. For a time, she had a large family here. Then one by one....
