Oh, it's this weekend again!

Wow, there's a lot of people here...I wonder if Eugene or Mother are here...

[ Gothel is unruffled. In her sickly sweet sympathetic voice, she croons: ] And who else would it be? [ Sharply: ] Now, where is this awful teashop? I'm sure it's full of ruffians.

[Gulp.]

Mother, it's not full of ruffians, I promise. It's actually really nice there.

[Here, have instructions, she'll prove it to you!]

Did I hear that correctly? Did someone say the teashop was full of ruffians? [Charlie? Offended? Ohlordyes.]

[Rapunzel gulps, shaking her head at Charlie.]

...it's just my mother...she's a little...overprotective.

But she called us ruffians. [And she doesn't like the womans tone at all.] I get overprotective. I understand that fully. But snap judgements without at least giving people a chance? That's not so cool.

[But Charlie promises to be nice.]

[Rapunzel nods quietly, sighing. It's...hard to explain her mother to people.]

I'm gonna tell her to come by...okay? Then she can see that the tea shop isn't full of ruffians.

[Toph doesn't count.]

[Charlie'll give the woman a chance. And politeness. And manners and will not singe shoes for rude behavior. She promises.]

Okay. Just let me know when she's here so I can say hi.

[Rapunzel gives Charlie a quick wave and nod as soon as she sees the familiar hair of her mother.]

She's here!

Nice? Your "friend" seems to have quite a temper.

[ With that judgmental statement, she flips the audio off and concentrates on finding the teashop. She sniffs at it the moment she walks into the door. Small, dirty, and full of people. Just as she suspected. ]

[She wants to respond to that but her mother cuts her off before she can. Siiigh. Time to prepare for this.

When Gothel walks in, Rapunzel is doing some of her waitress duties, taking an order for a table with a big smile. She's confident and doing a good job. And her smile grows as she sees her mother. Despite everything, she really did miss her.]

Mother!

Oh, Rapunzel, what are you doing? It looks like you work here. Surely you're better than that.

[ She smiles, though. ] Aren't you going to come say hello, my Flower?

[Lady, you remind Charlie of this horrid woman at the Shop compound who tried too hard. This is not a good thing. However! Charlie adores Rapunzel and is going to be nice. And hang back a bit, washing teapots and cups and waiting for Rapunzel to introduce her.]

[Rapunzel gulps a little and smiles more, nodding.]

I do work here! I have to pay rent somehow...

[And she likes her job. Her smile grows as she goes over to hug her mother.]

It's really good to see you, Mother...

Well, there will be no more of that, I'm sure.

[ She hugs back, squeezing tightly. ] And it's good to see you too, dear. [ Her hands tangle in Rapunzel's hair. At least that's still as long and flowing as ever. Mother had been worried! ] How did you get a job so quickly? I just left you in the tower yesterday to go to town. I must have taken a wrong turn to come here.

[ Well, not exactly. Gothel's gotten the whole City story from a helpful stranger on the street. (It's good to be prepared.) But she's interested in what Rapunzel will tell her. ]

But...

[She sighs. She shouldn't argue with her mother, not right now...]

Well, time is...sort of funny here. I'm not sure how to really explain it, but...well, it's sort of been a year for me...

[Charlie, would you like to meet Mother?]

[Charlie has a free moment. Dishes have been done, the customers are all content so she heads over and extends a hand to the woman, all smiles.]

Hi. I'm Charlie. I'm a friend of Rapunzels.

[ Gothel has two options here. She can turn down Charlie's friendliness, and focus only on getting Rapunzel out of here and back to the tower. Or she can be sort of nice and hope that Charlie agrees with her about Rapunzel being safer there. It might not be a bad idea to have an ally.... but would the girl be? She hardly looked older than Rapunzel, to Gothel's eyes. ]

It's nice to meet you... Charlie. I am Mother Gothel. Thank you for looking after my precious girl.

[This woman looked nothing like Rapunzel. That was irrelevant.] You're welcome. Rapunzel is one of my favorite people here. Kind of like a sister to me.

[That just makes Rapunzel beam, and maybe blush a bit too.]

Is that so? [ She gives Charlie another considering look, and then clasps her hands together. ] Well, that's settled. You don't mind if I steal my daughter away for a bit, do you, Charlie? [ She laughs heartily. ] Not that it'd be stealing!

Depends on where you're stealing her to. [Still smiling, only lady you are unsettling.] We kind of like having her around here.
