[There is what can really only be described as an array of absolutely ridiculous things around a clear area clearly meant for someone to be sitting, only there isn't someone there. And then there is. Aaaaand then there isn't. It's rifling through the desk behind him that he finds the device on.]

Normally I have a bit of a problem working on one project at a time but this... This is, this is maddening. Constant ticking - I can see where it makes a man a bit wonky. Tell you what though, excellent for composing. Never skips a beat.

The hierarchy is... Reverse alphabetical order with the Q floating since it doesn't refer to anything really specific, more a habitual event or thing. [Because that was a clear answer.] Anything not already mentioned comes after the aforementioned. [Totally clear.]

Have you actually got handcuffs? [Because they were the curse last time. If she's got handcuffs there's starting to be an odd trend in people-around-him-who-have-handcuffs. It's helping with the ticking a bit but he's a little distracted by the idea of her having them before he gets to what they'd be used for.] Not that you shouldn't have handcuffs. Perfectly welcome to have handcuffs if you want handcuffs. I think you're supposed to handcuff hands to objects instead of other hands - unless you're using handcuffs for their intended use - or... you just feel like doing that.

[He takes the time to consider some of the other things he was thinking about while she works out the alphabet and then comes back to the moment when she finishes, because he can't stand to have a moment of even mental silence.] Yes, anything added now is lower on the list than the things I told you earlier, regardless of where it falls on the alphabet.

What? No, I just thought you... You said being handcuffed could be more interesting this time and I assumed you had handcuffs because you said it. If you don't want to, I mean. You can have handcuffs. [The bed thing yay now he is red tipped.] Yeah, you could do that. [...] But you can do a lot of things with them, yeah. Very versatile. And much nicer than they used to be. Have you seen old handcuffs? From your... 16 to 1800s? Somewhere around there. Clunky, heavy, painful, hard to use. Some were just weird.

Haven't had a chance to be handcuffed with anythin' older than...well twenty first century. [She is a baby, Doctor. A baby who is doing some eyebrow wiggling and flirty smiling at you.]

[He's quite well distracted but for a very wide variety of reasons. One train of thought is still delineating the history of handcuffs on Earth and other planets where they developed simultaneously. Another is definitely noticing the lovely pink and yellow thing of an almost mayfly flirting with him over the feed. And several others entirely unrelated to this conversation at all that are helping the flush creep back down his neck and out his ears.]

Depending on your definition of 'handcuffed with', you have, actually. They make them with fur? Why would they make them with fur?

Oh, right. Yeah, that would be... unfortunate. I was just thinking the fur would be tickley, which seems like it would be a bit counterproductive.

[Rose laughs a little at that.] We'll have to give it a shot and see how it works out.

You'll just have to be careful. Amy says my hair is fluffy. Do you think it's fluffy? I don't think it's long enough to be fluffy.

[He considers that for a moment.] Okay.

[She purses her lips, pondering that for a moment. Really, the fact that Amy says it's fluffy makes her want to say it's not.] Not fluffy and it's too...thick to be fluffy. Fluffy is more...cotton candy sorta thing. I like your hair.

[As if he didn't already know that.]

Okay? [She's not entirely sure she expected that answer out of him.] Okay. I haven't ever...I mean...the first time I've had handcuffs on was when we were cursed. {Aaaaaand she's back to bright pink.]

That's what I said! Sort of. I think I said it wasn't long enough to be fluffy. Or that it was too long to be fuzzy. Something like that. Not the candy floss thing. Or that you like it. Although I know that, and I like that you like it.

[Well she's the one who said that being handcuffed would be fun.] I have, but I get arrested a lot, which isn't really all that fun.

Think you're right. It's got to be longer to be fluffy too. And you use stuff to make it more...bed head hair in a good way than fluffy. [At some point she'll probably tell Amy she likes his hair. She tells everyone else or at least gives that impression.

[It is fairly adorable even if she doesn't agree. She's used to him not being there and it's all right. She'd rather have him there when she falls asleep.

The question prompts some thinking before she answers.] Average person playin' against me...'bout half the time? Why?

[He does intend to be there sometimes and just forgets, or gets involved in something. On the nights he actually does sleep he tends to wait until after she's been out for a while to do it himself, and then he is there.]

Grid strategy algorithm. Go! We should play Go. Or the version of Go that people play in your day anyway. I told Ptolemy there were just too many rules. Have you ever played Go?

Well there were lots of rules. Now there are a few rules but lots and lots of strategies. It can look deceptively simple but it's quite fun you get two minds against one another who are balanced properly.

Hmmm not sure I'll give you much of a go but I'll try it. [In other words, she knows he's way ahead of her on the intelligence curve.]

'Much of a go' at Go. [He thinks your pun is funny, Rose.] Yay! It's not hard to make a table for it. You just need I think... thirty dark and thirty white pieces. You come up with those and I'll get the board ready. [Perhaps, but there's more than one way to balance. Common sense, strategy, doing the unexpected, daring; there's several thousand opening plays and they can be ranked by aggression or different styles of playing. He has no idea how Rose would play that sort of game, so he's not instantly counting her out. (Of course, this is because he knows and likes Rose. If he didn't know or like Rose, he would find the idea that he couldn't beat someone like Rose laughable.]

[She smirks at him, thoroughly pleased with her pun and his amusement of it.] Pieces need to look like anything in particular?

[She'll probably do all right and maybe even pull one over him once but she doubts it. In any case, she's more worried that they both have fun playing it. (Oh Doctor. She would scold him for that as well. Not because she doesn't think he can beat someone like her but because underestimating people isn't a good idea.)]

Hopefully roughly uniform across the fifty of them. Usually on the smallish, roundish side, but whatever you can find that you like in two clearly different colours you can find thirty of each of works for me. They used to play it with rocks; I daresay we don't have to do the same. Be creative!

[Her chance in beating him lies in her unpredictability and humanness. Straight up strategy, out-smarting, clearly not happening. And he resents not being able to say with absolute certainty when he can intellectually best someone and when he can't. C'mon.]
