[Snape is standing in the middle of his sitting room and there seem to be little puff balls all over the place. They're tiny and worse...they're multiplying. He is attempting to use his wand to lift large amounts to toss them out the window but it really doesn't seem to be helping.]

An explanation of what these things are would be welcome at this point.

[He looks over at his device with the most sour of expressions.]

Preferably with some promptness.

[He smiles, then, as if only just realising something amazing and, well, that's because he kind of did. He already knew magic lives, but not quite like this.]

It's impossible to learn everything about it all on your own, probably.

[Not everyone can understand Snape's true passion for magic and it's finer details. This is a nice change.]

Some will excel in areas that others will not. Of course, some are also blind to the potential that some possess.

[There have been discussions with Gaius and Kilgharrah, brief ones, but here he's only really gotten... Well, a lot of adoration and fascination, and whatever the hell to call the Arthur deal, but nothing quite like this.]

Or to the potential they possess themselves.

[No adoration from this one, Merlin. Even after you introduce yourself. (What? He didn't pay attention to every post made by the twins. Most were nonsense.)]

As regrettable a trait as those who think they can do anything.

[...he actually might find that a little refreshing. Because, you know, after hearing everywhere how amazing you are or will be and what great things you'll do and what a great destiny you have etc etc, and then getting all these awed looks from everyone who knows the legends in this place, having someone look at you like you're nothing particularly special at all...

Yeah, that would probably be nice.]

Moderation. Balance. It's very important, isn't it? In everything.

[Clearly introductions are in order here. Snape certainly thinks so.]

Clearly. Some simply fail to appreciate that.

[A pause.]

I am Severus Snape. And you are?

Merlin. The Merlin, before you ask, like most people do who know of me tend to do.

[A beat and he furrows his forehead.]

Is Merlin really that unusual of a name? That you need to ask if I'm "the" Merlin. I could be just anyone for all they know. But I guess, considering the kind of place this is, it's logical to expect those kind of things.

[Oh, did he just ramble like an idiot? He sure did just ramble like an idiot.

Ahem! He grins.]

It's a pleasure to meet you.

[The Merlin, hm? Snape doesn't look impressed by the fact even if he is very aware of the the name.]

Merlin does tend to lead the mind towards a certain individual in my world. However, if you would like some sort of prize for being him, I am afraid that you will have to look elsewhere.

[He gives a quick laugh.]

Oh, no, not at all. I just figured that since I was pretty sure you'd know that name, I'd just skip right ahead to that fact. As reassuring as it is to hear over and over that I apparently succeed with fulfilling my destiny, the whole "I'm Merlin" followed by "the Merlin? Really?" pattern to my introductions is already getting a little old.

How fortunate that you are able to avoid that pattern this time.

[He shrugs, leaning back a little.]

I guess I shouldn't complain.

You certainly don't appear arrogant despite your power and knowledge of your future.

I already knew before I came here, just less specific. "It is your destiny, Merlin, to help Arthur unite the lands of Albion and unite the old ways with the new", or however that went. Sometimes it's more of a burden than anything else.

I can't really afford to get arrogant.
