I'm going out for drinks and maybe some dancing tonight if anyone wants to join. I'll be at The Blue Light at seven tonight.

Also, don't guess anyone's seen Faith around, have you?

Hey, we've gotta talk. Police stuff so use a filter here or meet me and we'll have a beer and chat tonight.

[ FILTERED TO CHARLIE MCGEE ]
Hey Charlie. Finished carving out the tree trunk. Anytime you wanna come by the Center to take some measurements, I'm good with that. I'll be there 'till about six-thirty tonight.

[ FILTERED TO PIGLET ]
Piglet, got a tree carved out for you. Charlie's gonna make some bedding and pillows for the furniture, maybe some curtains. Might wanna talk to her about what colors you want.

[He nods his understanding. He remembers those nights back home when he was on call. It was a difficult balance unless you were truly on vacation, knowing how much to drink just in case. No one wanted to put life on hold just because they were on call twenty-four / seven.

Holding up his beer to toast her even though she has water.]

Well here's to your safety. What kind of monsters you usually find down there?

[She clinks her glass against his in a toast.]

Lots of gooey ones? I've never run into any like the ones down there. There's some vamps like the ones back home but more often ones I don't know.

I've never been down there at nighttime. And in the daytime I guess they stay pretty well hidden, the gooey monsters.

[He thinks for a moment, logically figuring out that there's no sun in the Underground and therefore...] Guess the vampires can walk around whenever, but they don't always look like vampires.

You're okay if you stay on the safe path. Wandering around in the alleys and abandoned buildings is less safe.

[She nods and shrugs.] Pretty much, yeah.

Makes me so glad I know how to take care of myself. But now this conversation isn't fun anymore. Tonight's a fun night.

[Derek downs the rest of his beer and nods over to the dance floor.]

Up for some dancing before you go hunting?

Definitely up for dancing. [She takes another sip of her water and gets up to head toward the dance floor.]

[They get out to the dance floor and it makes Faith cross his mind for a brief moment. He's danced with her before and he is getting pretty worried about her. He decides dancing with Buffy is not the best time to ask if she's seen Faith yet. Besides, as they start to move together to the music, it seems that Buffy is a good dancer too.

He gives her an appreciative up and down look, and steps in closer.] Not too bad at this, Blondie.

[Probably not but Derek's got a point. Buffy has noticed Faith hasn't been around a lot and has just sort of assumed she's been in the Underground a lot. It's a Faith thing to do, disappear to the seedy side of things.

Buffy grins at him and tosses her hair.] Maybe it's a good partner thing. I'm absorbing your good dance vibes.

[His hands in the air, he dances closer to her, their bodies occasionally grinding together.]

Could be. I'm gonna go with you just being good at moving that body of yours... and finding a beat to move it to. Some people can't even do that.

[Buffy goes with it, hands going to Derek's hips.]

Dawn would say it's because I'm a slayer. She's got some what of a point.

[He smirks and shakes his head. He guesses it does make sense. Buffy is graceful when she teaches her classed. She's graceful when they spar together. But it doesn't really seem all that fair that that grace extends past being a Slayer and into real life things. What he wouldn't give to be graceful at every damn thing. What most people wouldn't give for that kind of natural boost.]

Must be nice to be you. Good at most everything and looking good while doing it. Don't think I've ever even seen you have a bad hair day. [Yeah, there's a reason he keeps his head shaved down pretty well. Genetics had been good to him in many ways, but not in the way of hair.]

[Buffy laughs, tilting her head back a bit when she does.]

You haven't seen me first thing in the morning. I look like I have a cat on my head, but yeah, there are benefits to being a slayer.

And I bet even then you're still pretty damn cute, Blondie. Cat head and all.

[Honestly, he just can't picture her not looking cute in some way. Probably cause he's never seen it. He'd have to have been blind not to notice how pretty she is. And she always seems to have people around her, which attractive people tend to do. Add that Slayer grace on top of what was already there, and she had no room for any of this first thing in the morning talk.]

My momma was white, my dad african american. I ended up with his hair, which you can guess is more like a cat than yours will ever be. Used to wear it in braids when I was in college. But that's a lot of upkeep so... this is what you get now.

[Buffy grins at the compliment, blushing slightly. She reaches out and runs her hand over Derek's head.]

Yeah but it works for you. It's sexy.

Hey, I'll take sexy any day. [He can't not smile when she runs her hand over his head. It's a sweet gesture, something Penelope frequently does back home, and it just makes his whole face light up. He dances up closer to her just a bit, circling behind her so that her back is to his front. To keep it friendly though, since he's pretty sure she always has her sights on some other guys, he lifts his arms in the air instead of putting them around her waist as they move to the beat of the music.]

If you've got it, flaunt it, right?

[Buffy flirts with guys. Sometimes she has a thing with Pyro. She doesn't think they're serious enough to warrant not flirting. She's also not ready to get involved in anything serious right now, which is good. She raises her arms as well, mirroring his movements. She grins and flips her hair a bit.]

I can do the flaunting thing sometimes.

[The song ends and Derek guides Buffy off the dance floor with a hand at the small of her back. They end up back at the bar and he orders himself another beer and tells the tender he'll pay for whatever she wants too, which he is pretty sure will be water again.]

Hey, with all that Slayer stuff, can you even get drunk? Maybe a little buzzed?

[She does order another water. She's just not on the alcohol tonight.]

I can. It just takes a lot. Slayer healing metabolizes it quickly. I can get really, really drunk if I drink fast and a lot.

You know someday I might like to see that, depending on the kind of drunk you are.

[Cause lord knows that some people are not fun drunks. He suspects Buffy would be though, although he's not entirely sure. Which is why he just comes out and asks as the tender places their drinks in front of them and he takes a sip of his beer.] So what about it? What kind of drunk are you?

A very silly, lots of fun, party sort of drunk. I laugh a lot and forget that slayer grace plus drunk is not a thing that happens. We could do a drunk night though. It could be fun.

Well you let me know when you've got a night off and we'll get silly with it.

[Cause now he's honestly curious to see what Buffy is like minus all the natural grace and super powers. Not that any of that will be gone for reals, but she does make it sound like it will be a little bit stunted.]

[Definitely stunted.]

Let me see how things are tonight. If they're quiet enough we can make it a tomorrow night thing or something.
