Enterprise? Do you read?
[A curly-headed boy, almost certainly not out of his teens, frowns at the screen. His words are rendered somewhat incomprehensible by a thick Eastern European accent in spite of his obvious attempts to annunciate.]
Ensign Chekov to bridge. Uhura? Sulu? …Mr. Spock? Chekov to engineering. Mr. Scott, can you hear me? There may have been a... ah, a malfunction with the teleporter.
Can anyone hear me?
[He sighs and fiddles with something on his device. The video feed distorts momentarily before returning to normal. When the teenager speaks again, his tone is low and words less painstakingly produced as if he’s speaking himself.]
Ai, what is this? There shouldn’t be interference this far out from the magnetic anomaly. Eto piz`dets…

Action;
It is possible. This car? She could make it, if everyone after you were so careful as you. [He rolls his eyes.] That story has very few details. The captain, I think, was just young and stupid.
Very, yes, although it would be very difficult to drop the Enterprise into a quarry.
Action;
'Long as you had a supply of parts...don't see why not. [He runs his hand over the car's fender apparently wiping some dust off. Not really. He just likes touching her sometimes. He likes the idea of one of the Winchesters lasting that long because he and Sam sure as hell won't. And shhh, the Impala is absolutely a Winchester.]
Big damn ship?
Action;
Parts continue to be manufactured. Maybe your Impala still exists over two-hundred years into your future.
[Talking about the Enterprise makes him even more animated and excited.] Yes, sir! Two-hundred-eighty-nine meters and twenty-three decks. She is a Constitution-class starship.
Action;
Nah, in the late 70's they turned her into some sissy assed family car that no one wants to be seen in. [He sounds mournful about this.
There's a moment because...well Dean's seen Star Trek and he likes Star Trek, even if he'd never admit it. He knows about the Enterprise and he gets a big dorky grin on his face.] Dude, that's gotta be awesome.
Action;
It is! She is so large that I can run before shifts without entering the same passage twice, but also--and this is important--very maneuverable. When I first saw her, I thought to myself, "A ship that large will never handle well and I will spend half of my time modifying courses so she does not hit anything," but she makes every turn I ask her to and Sulu says she is very responsive.
Action;
[He loves his car okay. Chekov's description of the Enterprise gets a low whistle out of Dean] Sounds like a sweet ride to me. She's goes warp speed and all that shit, right? Like snow flying at you when you turn on the high beams.
Action;
Yes! You know about warp speed? It looks just like a heavy snowstorm, only if there are miscalculations, the whole ship can be blown apart by a planet or asteroid field in the way or destroyed by a star.
Action;
[He beckons Chekov over to the passenger side back door and opens it, pointing out the side panel that he and Sam carved up with their initials.]
Sammy was about...eight when we did that. I expected Dad to blow a gasket, but he just sort of looked and growled at us to stop destroying his car.
[He flips open the passenger back ash tray in the inside handle on the door to show Chekov the little green army man Sam shoved in there.] Tried like hell to get that out 'cause Sam wouldn't stop bawling. He had about a hundred of those little green men but he needed that one too.
Action;
['Interested' doesn't even begin to describe Chekov's fascination with the car's interior. That fascination extends to the car's owner's stories.] That one was his favorite, maybe. A hundred others would not replace a favorite. And Sam--he is a brother?
The imperfections-- [He's eying the carved initials now] --they make her special. They tell stories. I like ships that have stories to tell better than new ones.
Action;
Yeah, he's my little brother. [Who is now two inches taller and several pounds heavier] Yeah I convinced him that he was hiding there, giving orders from the trenches.
[Dean nods, letting Chekov have a good look at the car. There's a dark stain on the white leather of the back seat. He hasn't explained that story but there's definitely one behind it. It's just not a happy one.] Yeah, it sort of makes them people instead of just a bunch of nuts and bolts.
Action;
[He won't ask about the stain--some people don't like talking about the more unpleasant memories their belongings tell--but he takes full advantage of Dean's unspoken invitation to inspect the Impala.] Yes, just like that. It gives them personalities.
Action;
[Dean nods in agreement.] Never understood someone who wanted to drive a shiny hunk of metal right off the assembly line. Hollowed out and absolutely no damn personality.
[Of course Dean's never had the money to afford any kind of new car.]
Action;
[That makes Chekov smile.] Starships are not like that. Seeing one new before it is launched--there is something very beautiful about it.
Action;
[In fact it's pretty much why Dean thinks this place is awesome.]
They smack 'em on the hull with a bottle of wine like they do ships?
Action;
Some captains do, but not all of them honor old traditions. I think it is bad luck to skip the christening of a ship.
