Are we having fun yet? Heat, limited supplies, limited space...limited patience.
[Oh so cheery and deadpan, it's all factual to Doctor House.]
If you haven't already listened to obvious voices of reason, you could be dead by now. If not? Spare a moment to say thank you. Some of us are busting our asses. What are you doing?
[private to Chase]
We should have a glass of water and pretend it's coffee. I hear that it does wonders for the effects of swallowing some sand.

[He has to stop here. The sound is coughing muffled against a sleeve.]
When I stop, I'm not going to be able to get back up again for a week. Maybe more. So I haven't stopped.

[Because that sounds like what he's reaching for, some manner of heroism or particular recognition to validate his own suffering. Don't knock the theory because it's one he may or may not know very well himself.]
If you're doing half-assed, half energized treatments and wearing yourself out what will we do after you're forced to stop.

But thanks, House. There's no one better for making him feel like a useless child.]
Right, I'm doing my job. What's my other option?

There will be wins, losses and draws. How and why Chase treats them all as though they are his and his alone is another kettle of fish. House imagines that's one of the reasons why he and Cameron can be two peas in a pod.]
Stay behind the scenes long enough to recover. Don't martyr yourself.

The acute phase lasts a week to ten days. Judging by the fever spike last time I checked, I'd say I'm on the first day of that now, so by tomorrow taking it easy probably won't be much of a choice.
[He's made it into the second day of the acute phase of the fever, in fact. Never let it be said that regular crippling hangovers can't help you build a pain tolerance.]
Don't worry, I didn't come back angling for some shining armour. There just hasn't been much point in stopping for an early nap.
