[Anya's lounging on a couch, fiddling around with what appears to be a...game boy color. In general, she just looks very bored and disinterested in her game. She doesn't appear to be in her usual apartment, but if anything is out of the ordinary, she doesn't seem to notice it.]

...stupid gadget thing...I swear, every time there's nothing to do this thing decides it doesn't wanna work right.

DAD!!! Is Pavel around? I need him to fix my thing again!!

[ooc: Open post for the family curse! We don't have to stick with this, we just needed a jumping off point.

Backdated to the 6th because there's a time and a place for mucking about and I don't seem to have either the time or the place. Anya is the only girl in the family composed of the City's Russian Club (they are totally a club hush). Also Dewey is in it too.]

[Look who's just come wandering into the living room, looking for all the world like he belongs here, and not seeming to notice anything out of the ordinary, either. But would you really trust him with your Game Boy, Anya? Really?]

Uncle Meyer?

[And now she's excited, leaping off the couch, practically tumbling over her feet to go and give her ner-do-well uncle a big hug.]

Uncle Meyer!! You're back, it's great to see you!!

[Forget the Game Boy for now. You gotta tell her stories.]

I thought it seemed like a good time for a visit.

[What he really means is that there had been whispers of legal trouble brewing, and he'd thought it best to get away for awhile, but hey. He's hugging her back, although a little stiffly, because he's never been the most affectionate of guys.]

Did you miss me?

[Raikov peeps around the corner from the kitchen. He's a bit wary with Meyer back. He left the Motherland. You don't just... go and do that! But Raikov isn't going to just let the man not come into their home. That'd be... rude. He's still family.

But Anya really needs to specify which dad she's addressing. He never knows which one she's referring to. Raikov interrupts their current conversation though]

I haven't seen him for a few hours now, dear.

You know I did. What've you been up to? It's been stupid boring since you left!

[Anya grins and waves at Raikov.]

Dad, Uncle Meyer's back!! And, uh, well, when Pavel shows up, I need him to fix my game boy.

[Right, back to idolizing badass criminal uncle.]

[He might be speaking to Anya or Raikov, it's hard to tell, but he's definitely looking at Raikov.]

And did you miss me?

Work, of course. I've been keeping very busy.

[The drug business is a booming trade, after all.]

How's school?

[This is vitally important. She's probably used to it by now, but he always asks about grades.]

[Raikov just stares at him for a bit]

I'd miss you more if you had just gone to another city rather than... America.

I see that. And I'll let him know if I see him.

[He'll let them continue their convo. He needs to work on making dinner]

There's more opportunity in America, as we both know. What could I do in Russia?

[He puffs out his cheeks]

I could, but I think everyone prefers it when I only occasionally visit and bring presents.

I know the kids enjoy you spoiling them. I suppose that's good enough.

[After spending the day at the lab as usual, Chekov comes home to his sister hugging their criminal American uncle. Wonderful. He isn't so enraptured with Meyer's stories or activities, in the City or at home. Being part of an international peacekeeping organization that has a tendency to fight crime only encouraged his high standards of morality.

That said, Meyer is family, and he can be good company. Chekov extends a neutral greeting.]

Meyer.

[He doesn't bother saying hello to Anya. She's his sister, he sees her all the time.]

What, you and Isaak don't like the presents too?

[Really, how could you be mad at this charming face.]

Pavel.

[It's a relatively neutral greeting, too, but he does offer a smile. He knows that out of all the kids, Pavel's the one who's most likely to call his business into question, and perhaps for good reason.]

It's nice to see you.

You as well.

[And it is, since family does trump duty. That doesn't mean he has to approve of any of the choices Meyer has made.]

How is business?

Busy as ever.

[It's one of those meaningless statements, but he figures the kid'll read as much or as little into it as he wants to.]

And what're you doing these days?

Ah.

[So still doing illegal stuff. Okay.]

Physics, mostly. Teleportation should be possible soon.

[Hey, he does legal stuff, too. Sometimes.]

Teleportation? Well, that'll make it easier for me to visit all of you. I'm sure you'll all be thrilled by that.

[All of this sarcasm, look at it.]

[He snorts at this sarcasm.]

The only thing that prevents you from visiting more often is you.

And the fact that I'm not made of money.

He does have work.

[Lay off the lad, Van'ka, he's doing his best. Or maybe that's just Isaak's own not-so-savoury background talking.]

How do you manage to keep breaking it?
