[Viewers are treated to this video from years ago when they come across Ginny's entry today. It's shaking and loud and ridiculous, one might be able to make out twin men with the trademark Weasley hair and a younger wizard with glasses and Ginny herself. It's hard, though, with the flashing fireworks in the pre-dawn light, her hexes, the confetti streaming through the air. But it isn't impossible.

When the video ends in laughter, it cuts out to be replaced with a softer kind.]

Idiots.

[But it's fondly said. There's a pause as she processes things, marvels at how that was two years ago, how different things have become. How much she's grown and yet, not.]

As if fireworks could've make up for three years. But—I don't know, since today marks five, I suppose I wouldn't actually mind. If it meant they were still here, anyway.

[There's another pause as if she might say more then decides against it, ending the feed.]

[ said with the air of someone who knows what that expanse of time is like, what five years away from home with little to no hope of ever seeing it again can do to a person. ]

[Does it look like she's been crying? No. Hell no. She takes a breath, smooths back her hair, flashes the most brilliant smile—back at Hogwarts, it would have laid boys helpless at her feet. They really are very alike.]

I should've known you'd try to chat me up first thing in the morning.

I'd say it passes quickly, but that isn't always true.

It isn't. People can sugarcoat it all they want, but it doesn't change the fact that it's been a long time since you've been home, that it will likely be a while longer before you do again.

I've been home twice. [It's almost defensive. But her voice softens.] You sound like you know what you're talking about, Captain.

I do. Not in regards to this place, of course, but... let's just say that going home for me wouldn't exactly be going home.

[Well, if anyone cares for something sharp from Miss Weasley, that wasn't it. Even the video with her hexing her own brothers and boyfriend isn't quite it. But that's for another time.]

[ especially since she's deliberately led kirk and his crew to believe that they're out there on official starfleet business, that the federation's now manning missions out in the great beyond. she is going to kill chakotay when she finds out he told kirk they're lost. that's precisely what she didn't want, because there's nothing anyone can do about their situation and there's no sense in adding worry for something out of anyone's control. ]

But, I can relate. It's... hard, to be away from home and to know that there's very little chance you'll see it again. It makes getting out of bed some mornings the most difficult task in the world.

I don't remember if we ever had an agreement to not celebrate another year in this hellhole.

[She laughs because as terrible as it is, it's become home again.]

I think I'm well past celebrating or moping about it.

[LIES. Well, she's having a drink with Bucky, that's good enough for her.]

It's just another day, isn't it? Suppose that isn't true since I've gone and made a spectacle out of it, but I can blame my brothers two years too late on that one.

[Well, that's the thing, isn't it? This is all well out of their control, whether they want to admit it or not. Yes, they all want to get out and go home. Is that going to happen? No, she's not sure that's their choice to make. She fought that answer, too, refused to believe it for years, but the more people you see come and go, the more you realise that it isn't up to you. And it never will be.]

You've got to, though. Can't let it beat you. I'm not about to let the City win just because it's worn me down.

[There's the sound of a loud clatter somewhere, and then he's looking over his shoulder.]

[And then he turns back to the camera.]

Hey. Kid. Happy anniversary. Sorry, my dog's bein' an asshole again.

Well, it's Sunday. It's perfectly acceptable to have a drink with your Sunday brunch, isn't it?

[IT'S A THING. The little sandwich boards outside cafés say so.]

I'll have to get dressed, though. It's a little less acceptable to be in pyjamas outside.

[She starts laughing because what else can she do with that response?]

They do a roast down in one of the bars. I hear it's delicious. We can fill our stomachs, line 'em good and proper.

[ Because Bucky Barnes is getting her well and truly drunk. He is the best friend. ]

C'mon, would you say that about my son? Nobody's forcin' me to keep him, either, but I ain't gonna give him up just because he's a pain in the ass. 'n I'm not gonna give the dog up, either.

[Abandoning anyone is a touchy subject for him, dog or not.]
