[Look at her, all dressed up in her Operations red. There's a pep in her step, a smile on her fave, and an obvious pride to the way she stands. You can't buy this uniform in a store.]

I've heard of this event, but unfortunately, I missed it last time. Good to know I get to experience it this time. [And hopefully it's not going to end up horrifying her.] If there are any Starfleet personnel I haven't met yet... this is Lt. Uhura of the USS Enterprise. Welcome to the City.

[The message continues on in a bevy of languages: Swahili, Russian, Spanish, Klingon, and Vulcan. Slightly different wording for each language, but the point remains the same.]

Your Klingon is a little dicey, but the Swahili more than makes up for it. Enterprise, was it?

[Harold's just walking around, looking for--fuck, he doesn't know anymore. Kumar. A hit. Sanity. What he sees is legs. Long, long legs that are attached to a bright red uniform and holy crap, he has racked up enough nerd points to know a Starfleet emblem when he sees it.]

Woah.

[That's either a really amazing cosplay or he's acting like an idiot in front of an actual member of Starfleet, which would be moderately more embarrassing than acting like an idiot in front of a normal woman.]

[It's the latter. Uhura widens her eyes as she marches right on over, taking in the guy's lack of uniform. And then he's staring which is adding to her confusion mixed with annoyance at this entire scene.

Come on, Sulu. You know better.]

Sulu. Didn't you get the message from the Captain? We're supposed to wear our uniforms this weekend.

Apologies. It's not something I get to use very often.

[Not that she's hoping to.]

And yes. The Enterprise. Are you familiar with Starfleet?

I was apparently present, last time.

[A soft hmm.]

Has anyone contacted you yet?

[That non-verbal sound tells her what she already knows: he doesn't remember.]

Someone familiar with Klingon enough to recognize it, but he wasn't wearing a Starfleet uniform. He looks human to me, but you know how looks can be deceiving.

[Then there's the Sulu lookalike...]

[He's trying to. It bothers him, that something like that can simply be removed. It's a curse, and it's illogical to feel upset, but he does.]

[A nod. She's getting work done, which is more than he can say for himself.]

I have not made any substantial progress, nor encountered anything unusual.

[Ginny swore him to secrecy, and since she is unusual, that counts as not lying, right?]

[Fuck.]

Uh?

[Good, guttural noises are very impressive. He'll have her swooning in no time he is so bad at things.]

[She can tell. It bothers her too, not remembering an entire year of her life. She hasn't given up on seeking that information though, even if it means poking Chekov's memories.]

[There's a smirk on her lips because this is the City after all. And she already knows Ginny does magic. Not so much lying as it is keeping secrets she already knows.]

[She shakes her head slightly, still looking confused but now slightly concerned. Did he lose his memories too? Overnight?

It's time to take a hands-on approach to things. Literally. So she puts her hands on his shoulders, holding him steady.]

Sulu. Can you hear me?

[Swooning? There'll be none of that.]

[Oh god, there is a beautiful woman touching him and calling him Sulu (George Takei is the fucking boss, so hey, it's a compliment). What do?]

[Wait, no! Words. That was the wrong one.]

I... hear you okay.

Well who would? Very guttural, Klingon.

[ Oh, well, actually that's very complicated. The Doctor's genial smile becomes something a little more watery. ]

I've might have heard of it.

[ Evasive. ]

[What a relief. He's not deaf or injured or completely gone. Still, she isn't about to let him get him reamed out by Kirk or Spock for screwing up.

Remember those external inertial dampeners? She does.]

Good. Now where's your uniform?

[That's sweet of her. Now if Harold can just remaster the English language to tell her that there's a case of mistaken identity going on here.]

My... I, uh. I don't...

[Too evasive. Something's not right here.]

Where are you from, if I may ask?

[Familiarity with Klingon and Starfleet. It's something she can't unravel just yet.]

You don't what? Sulu, listen to me. Try to speak slowly. Remember your words.

[Uhura is pressing him, both with the dig of her fingers in his shoulder and with the need for him to speak up. Please don't let this be a sudden case of aphasia and amnesia.]

Oh--a little place called Gallifrey. You wouldn't know it. It's all gone.

[ Less evasive this time. ]

[There might be a sudden case of panic coupled with an awkward situation in his pants. But no, words, he can remember them.]

I-I don't have a uniform and my name's not Sulu.

[That isn't what she wanted to hear. At all. Wait. She did hear strange things happen this weekend and McCoy has an alternate here already...]

You're not Sulu? [She looks like she'll take him by his word, especially considering that Sulu isn't even near this bumbling. It's enough to have her release him.] I'm sorry. I thought you were a friend of mine. You look exactly like him.

[He's right. She doesn't and she doesn't remember coming across it in her history books.]

My condolences.

[She's seen how that would affect a person.]

[ Swiftly changing the topic. ]

Now then, how about telling me how it is you happened to get yourself stuck in here? I'm here to help.

I look like Sulu? [He doesn't look like Sulu. He looks like a Korean American investment banker.] Is this an Asians-all-look-the-same thing?

[It's amazing how indignation gives Harold the ability to string words together.]

[Uhura reels back slightly. Wow, this definitely took a wrong turn in direction. Remember your diplomacy, Nyota.]

No. That's not what I mean and I'm sorry if I implied that in any way. What I meant was that you look like Sulu because you do, not because you're both Asian.

[Somewhere, this is breaking the Prime Directive, but she pulls out her device and flips to Sulu's network listing where his picture is situated next to his full name and title and holds it out to this guy.]

[He takes a look at the picture and damn, she's not joking.]

Dude, that's me.

[Like she didn't already say that. Smooth.]

Sorry about the Asian thing, it's a problem at ho--holy shit, does that mean you're Uhura?

No, that's Sulu.

[The more she talks to him, the more she realizes these two can't be any more different from each other.]

Me? Is this a Black people all-look-the-same-thing? [She can't help the smirk that crosses her lips.]

[And she's doubtful he can help. If Spock and Chekov can't figure things out between both their brains, she's unsure this guy can.]

[Something tells her that him being part of Starfleet would just be odd. A Sulu-lookalike not actually being Sulu running around the fleet just doesn't fit.]

Yes, but I wasn't here for that one. [Or she was and that memory is long gone by now.] I'm only going by what I've been told.

So what were you told?

[ Answers are usually easier to find than this, and this Doctor isn't exactly a well of infinite patience. ]

[He had nobody's memories to poke but Jim's, and he's mostly trying to ignore what he saw: his emotional distress over Jim's death.]

What information have you received from him so far?

Not much, other than he is very possessive over his Enterprise. He fell out of the fountain and hit his head, so I took him to the hospital.

But I can't tell if him being annoying was part of the injury or part of his personality.

[With Q, it's definitely the latter.]

Was he ruminating at great length about how the ship was a work of art, his only lady love?

[Because you bet Jim does that. It might be a captain thing.]

If he is at the hospital, Doctor McCoy will handle the situation appropriately. I will continie with my readings.

I feel sorry for McCoy.

Okay, yeah, I get how you'd think that, but I'm serious, and you and Sulu looked different. Did George Takei exist in wherever you're from? Because he played Sulu.

Even more reason not to put your feet up. All those people going in and out. Someone's going to leave a door ajar.
