[ from 11:10 - 12:26, we're taken back to the time when john and his team were simply headed toward mars, for their mission in olduvai.

what's shown through the video isn't much, but it tells everyone about the kind of company that john keeps (they're not that great), as well as a welcome example of about the ark's technology when it comes to transporting individuals from one planet to another (through a giant water droplet that absorbs them from one place and spits them back out in another). there really could be worse things to show. john is currently trying to bring it down, but based on what he's seen on the network last time, there really isn't much he can do about it but answer questions - or ignore them, either way. ]

This is the first time I've ever heard anybody in a rush to go to Mars. Granted, back home, Mars is still uncharted, unwelcome territory, but I still didn't think people would actually need to go there.

There's an archaeological dig on Mars that scientists like to poke around into. They developed the technology for faster travelling so they could return their findings to Earth a little easier.

Did many people travel this way at that time? It could not have been common, with the... eh, hazards involved.

[Which isn't to say that transporters didn't have their issues back in the early days. Ending up as a pile of organic goo due to a slight malfunction that resulted in a subject's constituent subatomic particles coming together wrong sounds less painful than having limbs left in unintended locations, however.]

No, it's one of a kind for now. Connects a bridge between the reseach facility in Mars and Earth. And those hazards have been mostly fixed - unless there's a turbulence. [ poor pinky. ]

I'm not a scientist, so much of the details are unknown to me. I only know that they've somehow made travelling much better than it used to be. [ a seat. ] Well, sort of. We can travel in packs now.

Yeah, I figured that after the few attempts I've made. But this isn't a particular problem for me. Not for this one, anyway. The memory isn't that personal.

Can't say that much for other people, though.

Regardless, this Ark appears unstable and harmful.

Transportation of any kind always has its hazards. You take the risk or you don't. My mission required going through the Ark. There wasn't room for hesitation.
