I'll keep this short, but I thought I should make casino-related announcements during this -- likely very brief -- period of calm in which none of us are... pirates, or any other such unfortunate thing.

[He looks down at a pile of papers on his desk -- because where else would he be found but in his office at the casino, of course? -- and then back up at the camera with a little smile.]

The first matter of business is that Theo seems to have... disappeared. While I hope that this is a temporary anomaly, and hope for a quick return, this also gives me the chance to mention that, with business as good as it has been, the casino is in need of another card dealer. If you feel like you qualify, you can talk to me.

Second, I'm also looking to hire some musical entertainment. Ever since Ruby left --

[The sad expression that flits across his face is almost imperceptible, but definitely there.]

-- in any case, if you can sing, or play piano, or both, come have a word with me. These're good jobs, if you don't mind odd hours.

Yeah, there's a casino. It's called "Lucky's". You should stop by sometime, play a couple rounds of poker, have a drink.

That depends on how good you are, doesn't it? And the first drink for a new customer's on the house.

[He asks like he legitimately has no idea what that could be -- which, admittedly, he may not.]

So is this the kind of thing where women get a discount, or something?

[Yes, it's true, he has absolutely no idea.]

[ Dewey goes with text because... you can't immediately tell he's a kid that way. ]

I can play piano.

What's your repertoire like? You feel comfortable auditioning?

Sure, I can audition. I do mostly classical, but I can expand that.

Ideally, I'm looking for someone who can do a little of everything, probably with an emphasis on jazz. Can you come by as soon as possible?

You're the casino owner, then.

[ the mobster jim befriended. ]

A friend tells me you've got good scotch down there.

That's me. Meyer Lansky, pleased to meet you.

I guess the scotch must be all right, if people're talking about it. Who's your friend?

[He has a guess, but hey, maybe there're other people in the City who're interested in the liquor he can provide.]

No problem. Give me about an hour and I can be there.

[ At which point his cover will be up, but he's pretty confident that all he needs is an in for the audition. ]

[He'll busy himself with balancing the account books until Dewey shows up. Because it's not normal business hours yet, the door's locked, and Dewey'll have to knock.]

[ Dewey's dressed as respectably as he can manage, black pants and a button-down shirt, but he's still decidedly a kid.

That doesn't discourage him. A few sheets of music he's obtained in hand, he knocks confidently on the door. ]

[He hadn't exactly been expecting to see a kid when he opened the door, but he'd started working around that age, too, and he remembers well just how much he'd hated it when adults treated him like an idiot just because he'd been young, so he makes no assumptions just yet.]

C'mon in.

[ That seems like a good start. Dewey gives a small nod and enters. ]

Thanks.

[ And he takes a look around as he walks in, checking out the casino. ]

Nice place.

Thanks. It's a work in progress, but it'd be a lot nicer with an entertainer.

[He gestures to the piano.]

That to your liking? I know it's not fancy, but it works just fine.

[ The piano elicits a smile. ]

It'll definitely do.

[ You should see the beaten-up old model he's been playing on back home. He walks over to it and places his sheets on the stand. ]

Like I said, I've mostly done classical, but I pick things up pretty fast.

I'm looking for something a little jazzier, but not too showy. I don't need to distract my customers from their card games with anything raucous, but I'd like something more than just boring background noise, too.

[He really has no practice talking to children in this context, so he simply acts as though Dewey is a very small adult. That's how it's done, right?]

[ With Dewey, that's actually a very safe bet. ]

I'm sure I can work something out along those lines.

[ And he's just going to go ahead, sit down, and start playing. He only keeps that up for a brief period, though-- ]

Of course, I guess that might be a little more showy than you'd want.

[ In the same brief moment that he speaks, he changes the sheet he has up, swiftly shifting to something a bit more restrained. ]

[Consider him impressed, and he's not easily impressed. That doesn't mean he's going to make it particularly obvious, though. There're still a lot of questions to ask this kid, and as soon as he's finished playing, that's just what he starts to do.]

Both are good. I think the second's a little more what I'm looking for. How long've you been playing?

[ He wraps the song before its conclusion - just a sampling, of course, no need to drag it on - with a little improvised flourish. ]

I've only had a chance to play on an actual piano for a few months now, but I've been teaching myself for a while.
