Commander's Log 001 | voice; / action;
[ his day has not been a good one. actually, the last few have been... less than ideal. he's been trying to do something a little more normal and had almost no luck. perhaps it's his mind running wild; perhaps it's the lack of personal items he would normally have at his disposal. whatever the case, his days have been... extremely difficult to adjust to. so when he decides to test the system, as it were, he chooses to make his presence known by voice only for now. ]
I realize I am still very new to this City, but I have a question for any who would answer. Do any of you have personal items that you normally have in your own homes, items you no longer have with you? What do you do now, with the emptiness that comes of having lost something extremely important? I find myself... missing certain things and I'm at a loss as to how to connect to something that is no longer with me.
[ it's a vaguely-worded question and he's not sure he'll answer with complete honesty if someone asks what he's talking about, but it's a question that's bothering him now. perhaps the answer is to gather a substitute and make do with what he can here. for better or for worse. ]

Well, there's three that I've seen. I don't know much about them personally, just what they've done. Merlin knows how big the actual movement is, but they've been out on the network quite a bit so I reckon they're the leaders.
The deities were... a little more mysterious. I don't know if they were in charge of the curses or not, but they could make trades with people if we had something they wanted. Bring someone back to life—well, get their heartbeat back, the dead still walk around and everything here—in exchange for certain memories, for example.
But like I said, they're gone, now. Had a sort of big rebellion a few weeks ago. I don't know if anyone's told you about that?
voice;
The idea of the dead walking is more than a little disconcerting, but if it keeps important people around, I don't know of many who would complain.
[ ginny, you are his new favorite. ]
voice; 1/2
[It's magic, of that she's certain. But even the magic in her world doesn't do that. It can't.]
But I figure since you've only just gotten here, knowing about the changeover's probably for the best.
voice;
[Ah, rebellion. She knows it so well.]
The deities were angry, obviously, I mean—really bloody hacked off. Apparently one of their own was part of it? They executed her and broadcast it on the network as a warning, I suppose. Then they started interrogating us, tried to find out if any of us were part of the rebellion and Anonymous, well, they tried to get support from us while this was all happening so maybe some of us were. Anyway, the deities started collecting evidence against us, and a good amount of citizens ended up in prison. [She makes a sound, almost like a laugh, but too wry.] I did. But the rebellion broke us out and there was this fight down in the Square—which is why some repairs are still happening, it was an absolute mess.
[She pauses, letting that sink in for a beat, then adds: ]
Oh, and half the City's been ill in the past week and I usually don't get sick at all, but—it spread through the whole place and it seems like no one's quite sure why. You're a lucky bloke, you missed that mess.
voice;
and honestly? it all sounds like just another day aboard voyager in the delta quadrant. ]
It sounds like a day here is just as interesting as a year at home. Does anyone know what exactly happened to the rest of the deities? If that network warning was actually real, the assumption is they can be hurt. [ killed, whatever ] Either way, I wouldn't want to be surprised by their return.
[ he's seen too many instances where a surprise rebellion overthrows a government or leader and then gets overthrown in turn.
looking at you, kazon sects.]voice;
But she's said plenty to digest and at least with what she's divulged, it's all fact. Things happened, now they're trying to pick their way through the pieces.]
I don't know, honestly. We were told they're gone, which means they can make their way in and out of the barriers around here. So... you're right, if they've run off, they could still come back. There's no telling—and Godric, but I hate that. [A huff of breath.] But, well, as it is, it's just us around here, stuck same as you. Even those Anonymous blokes have worlds they've come from. Or so they've said.
[She made a point of asking about their home worlds because she wasn't certain they weren't natives like the deities could have been. And yet, can she be absolutely certain they didn't just spin the story? No one knows any other world but their own so who are they to know what's true and what's fabricated?]
voice;
[ even if it all turns out to be conjecture, it's something. this is information he can use regardless of whether or not it's real. this information is something he can mull over and think on for a good long time. he's curious about how exactly a band of off-worlders managed to upset the natives calling themselves "deities." it's all very curious. ]
Whatever the case, the ones calling themselves "Anonymous" have my interest. I'll have to keep my eyes open for them, too. I have a feeling a lot of my questions are ones only they can answer.
[ ginny, he is so keeping you. new favorite. ]
voice;
[She knows they're investigating the clock but anyone who's tried knows it gets defensive—they said as much, and Ginny knows it, too (because she's tried, her and people from home).]
They've seemed pretty open about us helping out, though. And keeping us informed as best they can. Can't say for certain if I entirely trust them but they're a load less cryptic than the deities.
[Then Ginny pauses and realises - ]
Oh, bollocks. You don't even know who I am—sorry. I'm Ginny Weasley.
voice;
[ his voice is amused when he answers her last part. it isn't as though he gave out his name, either. ]
I'm just as guilty as you are. My name is Chakotay. It's nice to meet you, Ginny.
voice;
You know, it's interesting. Most people aren't too keen on getting along with the people who run this place.
voice;
[ in theory anyway. he's more than capable of fighting if he needs to. he just prefers not to need to. ]
voice;
So you've had your fair share of trouble.
voice;
Who hasn't? Have you?
voice;
I've been trouble since I could walk.
voice;
[ just work with him. he's joking like crazy here, even if he does like her and approve of her. ]
voice;
Have you got siblings?
voice;
Just one. A sister. What about you?
voice;
voice;
[ he takes note of the past tense she uses, but opts not to comment on it. if he's right, that's a question that never should be asked. ]
Let's just say... my life has never been particularly devoid of trouble. [ or peaceful, but he's already toeing the line as it is. ]
voice;
Well, when you say a day here sounds like a year back home, I guessed as much. I'm not sure if being here'll be like a small holiday for you or not in comparison.
voice;
[ shore leave, really, but that opens up too much for questioning. ]
voice;
[She huffs out a breath then it sounds like she's smiling a bit.]
Whatever it is, it's waiting until you get back.
voice;
[ he's going to make it back to voyager someday. and he hopes they'll all be okay when he does. ]
I should thank you for your help, Ginny. I appreciate it and hope we can meet in person sometime.
voice;
[Teasing, bright.]
And you're very welcome, Chakotay.
