[Those who'd be inclined to notice Jimmy not being around might have noticed that he hadn't been seen anywhere since that Saturday, but with all the sickness going around, the assumption is probably that he's taken ill. He hasn't been in his apartment, he hasn't been in the hospital, and he hasn't been in any of the usual places he hangs out.

That's because he'd been sent home. And now, from the angry way he clicks on the video, he's back.]

Shit, we're really doin' this again?

[There's exhaustion in his voice, and something like defeat written on his face. What might have been anger is so dulled he obviously can't even conjure the ability to be enraged, like the first time he'd arrived here.]

How long's it been? Everyone still here?

[It's almost as though he's going through the questions without really caring or consciously asking them.]

Didn't think this place would still be around. Guess I was fuckin' wrong.

It ain't my place to ask you about your family or why you do what you do. People back home say you might be dead, then you turn up here. You think any of this shit makes any sense?

Smarter than what? Doesn't have shit to do with how smart someone is if people're determined enough to make 'em dead.

Well, looks like I must've gotten the instructions backwards, 'cause I'm pretty sure he's gonna put a bullet in me.

[ He shakes his head, attentions across the room now. ]

I'm sorry to hear about Angela.

[ It's stated cold and flat. ]

Your kid alright?

Yeah, well, thanks.

[It's not meant to sound dismissive, but it does.]

Tommy's fine. He's gonna be fine. I ain't lettin' anythin' happen to him.

[ He's inclined to mention something about not making promises one can't keep, but in this case he exercises some restraint. ]

This got real fuckin' sad, huh?

[ He's back at the table now mentally. ]

I mean-- life's on hold while we're here, right? You're still here. It's like a clean slate or something.

Yeah. That's why I ain't all that sad to be back. I mean, as far as places go...

[He shrugs.]

It's not that bad, right?

[He may be in the minority in thinking that.]

[ A shrug.]

It ain't the worst-- could be Cincinnati.

[ He's pushing for at least a smile here, Jimmy. ]

C'mon. Let's do something. If you need some time off, I can respect that, but I gotta know if you've gotten rusty.

[It does get a smile. Almost a chuckle, even.]

Yeah? What kinda somethin'? Don't worry about me bein' rusty. I wanna do somethin'. I wanna keep busy.

[ It said with real encouragement-- a bona fide opportunity to blow off some steam. ]

There's a couple of guys rationing medical supplies in a warehouse close by this thing I'm running. They say with all this rebellion and plague shit going on, they're holding out for the worst and wanna hike the prices. It ain't right.

[ But even morality can be capitalized on. ]

And it ain't what I want people talking about on that side of town either. I figure we pay 'em a visit and get some of those supplies out ourselves. They might not help for this thing passing through but-- [ A shrug. ] you never know where you're gonna find relief.

Yeah, okay, that's somethin' I could get behind. Figure it shouldn't be too hard, right? How closely they guardin' this stuff? You think we'd have a decent chance of gettin' some of those supplies?

[He's obviously looking for any kind of distraction he can find. This is a good one.]

Four guys. They might be carrying something or two between 'em, but I keep a sharp eye on the neighborhood. They feel safe there and shouldn't be any the wiser that something is coming their way.

Plus at least one of 'em is glued to the shitter from what I hear.

[A nod.]

Okay. So when can we do it? Four guys shouldn't be a problem.

Gotta be soon. Riots and plagues don't last forever.

[He's a little drunk for today, probably, but he's eager to do some work.]
