My people have been given the run of the City Labs via my authority, Captain James Kirk of the USS Enterprise, at the discretion of the anonymous faction that rid the City of its former captors.
That means anyone who wants to get some actual work done can report here to sign up for the Starfleet Program. Physicists, engineers, sciences, medicine if you're interested in expanding your field — all the sections are going to be geared toward improving our technology and getting us out of here. I've had a look around and for twenty-first century restrictions, it's not too bad. Let me know who you are and what you specialize in, so I can keep track of who's going to be coming and going from the facility. You don't have to be a member of Starfleet to sign up for a job, but it's not exactly light work and if you're not a fan of doing things the hard way, I wouldn't bother. We might have to try building our own equipment from scratch, for that matter.
Oh, and does anyone know where I can get a cheap motorcycle from? Thanks. Also, Stiles, I've got some free time if you do.
[PRIVATE TO ENSIGN CHEKOV ; separate starfleet comm frequency]
Hey, I'd like to meet up with you when you're free. I need to go over a couple of things with you about the City, I'd rather do it in person.

The only dressing up I do involves a dress uniform.

[ See that innocent smile, it's one she had better get used to. ISN'T HE SMOOTH? This will become a ritual; complimenting Janeway to the point of exasperating her. ]
But! I better go. See you later.
video; ( fast-forward to action? )
If you're a millisecond late, deal's off.
[ was that a threat or teasing? probably both. and now she's off to clean and repair a microwave. ]
action; (aye! )
Jim tucks his hands in his pockets and waits in the hallway, idly twirling the keys to Chekov's borrowed Impala. ]
action;
when she finally emerges, she's busy trying to fit her tricorder in the pocket of those damned pants. ] And this is why I haven't worn jeans since high school. [ because tricorders don't fit -- or stay once you get them to fit -- in the back pockets. yep. ]
action;
I really wish I'd arrived with a phaser, although I turned up wearing my whole uniform which was weird enough to distract me for a while.
action;
Here. You hold this, then. [ she holds out her phaser, controls locked, though set to stun under the safety. ]
action;
action;
...is that a car? [ this isn't a date kirk. what are you doing. ]
action;
She's a 1967 Chevrolet Impala, actually. Chekov's letting us have it for the night. I can drive it, don't worry, it's as easy as breathing with these.
[ This is a date, to be sure, but it doesn't have to be romantic to be awesome. ]
action;
[ not a car person. not a history person, either. she can pilot a starship between a pair of binary pulsars with an intense migraine pounding away in her skull, but she can't drive a something from old earth that has a steering wheel and an internal combustion engine to save her life. very much a child of the 24th century, hover cars are much more her thing. she'll leave ancient earth vehicles to her helmsman. ]
action;
It's beautiful. One of the most finely crafted models ever made and I get to say that because I kept one in prime condition for years. [ Brows raise in a mild tease. ] You didn't think I'd make you walk to dinner, did you?
action;
a sigh. she doesn't get in -- not yet. ] This is not a date, Mister Kirk, yet you seem to be treating it as one.
action;
[ He leans on the door, arms draped. ]
You're assuming this is going to be a romantic date, which it isn't. I'd like to get to know you a little better, insomuch as we actually can. That's all.
action;
[ honestly, she'll never understand men and their fascination with these antiques. (says the woman who holds conversations with the bulkheads of her starship.) ]
Fine. But it's still not a date. [ grimacing and shaking her head, she climbs in. it's been ages since she's been in one of these things, and she forgets how cramped they were. even the smallest of shuttles had more leg room than this. ]
action;
Did you ever have a favorite restaurant back home? I've got a handful in mind, depending on what kind of food you prefer.
action;
A couple of local places in Indiana I doubt you've heard of. I don't even know if they're standing yet in your time.
action;
Alright, so let's make this easy. French, Italian or an English pub?
action;
[ she will tolerate it while suffering in silence. ]
action;
What do you do for fun on Voyager? When you're not on-shift.
action;
[ borg space was supposed to be a hurdle, not a tumble into even more trouble. ]
I used to spend quite a few hours on the holodeck, though mostly I just read these days.
action;
Holodeck? An entire deck for immersion in a simulation?
