155 Howls: Rambling

Everything has just been really pretty crazy this month. I mean all the uproar and people being arrested and the people trying to overthrow the deities or whatever and then normal citizens attacking other people...

I don't know. It makes me wish I was home so much.

I don't know if I've ever told people about back home. I had my own garage there. Well, mine and the bank's. It wasn't a hugely successful place, but I did good work and I made a living. Plus I could walk to my dojo from there - boy do I miss that place. I'd run in the morning and then work and then go to the dojo, then home to my trailer. I knew it was meant to be mine when I first went to see it and there was a coyote hiding there. Just a sign, you know?

And my cat, at least Medea is here with me. I don't know what I'd do without her. When I first found her I thought some terrible person had cut off her tail, but the vet said she's a Manx and they don't really have tails. I never thought I'd be able to have a cat. Usually they hate me - they can smell the predator and it freaks them out, but Medea loves anyone who might pet her. And her fur - it's so soft, like a rabbit's and...

[ Boy, does he know that feeling. He thought he'd get a rest, being here, and then things went absolutely insane, and he's so very sick of it. He didn't return to Camelot because he wanted a break, just wanted to be left alone, with no destiny hovering like a massive shadow over his head, and no obligations, and his mother's food and loving warmth.

He could almost cry, thinking about it, and how it was being held from him. Charlie's something, of course, she always is, and a something he's infinitely grateful over. But he would be much more grateful if it was... calm. ]

It's really tiring, isn't it?

It is. And it seems I just can't stop talking about it no matter how hard I try.

Luckily I don't seem to be affected by that.

[ So incredibly lucky. ]

Do you want to, uhm. Do anything?

I wouldn't mind a distraction, but just how badly do you want to listen to me rattle on?

I can't seem to stop whether someone is listening or not.

I don't mind.

Then yeah. Anything, Just anything that will distract me.

Unless you really want to hear my entire life story.

I don't mind. Do you like horses?

I do, yeah. And they don't mind coyotes so much. As long as there are no donkeys around it should be fine. Donkeys can't stand coyotes - totally flip out, even if I'm in human form.

Meet me at the stables? I thought I'd say hello to Charlie's horse.

That sounds great. I'll be there in about ten minutes?

[ He should be there by then. ]

I'll see you there.

[She made her way to the stables and was idly stroking the nose of a beautiful bay while she waited for Merlin. And all the time she was telling the horse all about her garage back home.]

[ He hops the last step to her, landing silently right beside her. ]

Hey.

Hey.

[Mercy looked back at him.]

I'm trying really hard not to talk to much, but I can't quite seem to manage it.

Guess this is your lucky day, huh? Stuck listening to me ramble on? Feel free to ask me about things. Might mean at least you get to hear what you want and not just random whatevers.

[ He reaches out to pet the same horse, pondering for a moment. ]

What did you use to do during the day?

[She laughed.]

Well, I owned my own garage, so that was most of my life. I'd get up, run if I had time, go to the garage and work through the day. There was this great little taco stand I'd go to if I had time at lunch. The woman who ran it really didn't speak English, but we managed to make ourselves understood and the food was amazing.

After work I'd go to the dojo most days and practice martial arts. I miss that a lot. I mean, I still practice here, but my sensei was something special.

[ While Mercy talks, Merlin moves to another enclosure and calls for Necromancer. Although, that's a word he's not familiar with. ]

Sensei?

It's what you call the teacher.

He was a great guy. Really knew his stuff and was so supportive.

[She smiled over at him.]

Funny the people you miss when you've been gone as long as I have.

Yeah… I miss all the knights. Not that I’m really surprised, but...

[ Most of all, he misses Arthur. And Gwaine. But he won’t even see him when he goes back. Thinking that doesn’t work. ]

But sometimes... yeah.

Like, the werewolves back home? They make me crazy. They try and order me around and want to micromanage everything I do and usually I wish they'd just go away and let me be.

But now? I'd give anything to see them again. Even Ben.

Mm, I get that.

[ Necromancer comes up to the fence and Merlin mumbles a soft greeting as he reaches to pet him. ]

Funny, isn't it.

[She smiles at Necromancer.]

He is beautiful, isn't he?

Yeah, he is. Charlie loves him.

I'm glad I can hang around horses, usually at least. Some animals just freak out when I get close because they can smell the coyote in me. It can make things a little weird sometimes, trying to explain why Mrs. So and So's sweet cat went nuts when I walked by.

Is this a curse, or are you just feeling talkative?

[She's joking, mostly. It definitely sounds like a curse.]

I'm hoping it's a curse. I don't usually talk like this, but today I just can't stop.

The curse hasn't made you say anything you don't want to, has it? Those are so embarrassing.

Well, I've been talking about stuff I'd rather not, just 'cause everything comes spilling out of my mouth, but nothing terribly embarrassing at the moment and it's not like I can't filter what I'm saying. I just can't seem to stop talking.

I'm sorry--I should probably leave you alone, huh? I definitely don't want to hear anything you don't want to share.

Nah, it's okay. It's not stuff that's a problem to share, just... more than I would usually say. But I don't mind sharing stuff with you anyway.

Of course I don't mind. You're great.

And I know you're not going to run around telling everybody things I might say.

Well, it's not like I'm the only great one here.

I don't plan on that, nah.
