#004 [(Accidental) Video]

[The video feed starts with a dizzying blur of colour, a black clad arm flapping uselessly.]

Unhand me, trash! How dare you manhandle your—

Wah!

[And out of the well-lit interior of the office building out into the considerably brighter City. Naoi's being shoved outside, hauled out by security.

The communicator he's swinging so carelessly, seemingly unaware of the fact that it's recording, shows a familiar raven-haired girl likewise being taken outside.

Evidently, they were trying to snoop around the Deities' office building, when through one fault or another (good bets on "ruckus and mayhem"), they were caught.]

[SHODAN drops away at that last response, taking up arms -- what little she has -- and starting to tail Ayato on the Network. Of course she won't just come to him now; she'll wait until he starts moving.

He's a human kid; what can he do? But maybe he has a trick up his sleeve, so she'll make sure to wound him before coming out of cover. Her laser knife is valuable and rather expensive, but the rest of her arsenal consists mostly of scrounged blades. Most humans can't knife-throw out of a paper bag, but SHODAN has a mind built for running an entire space station; she can do the physics calculations of her throwing trajectory in less time than it takes a City PC to load a webpage.

His communicator shows up on the Network with a little bit of prodding, and now she is tracking the signature as it winds away from the inner City and farther towards the outskirts. She isn't so far behind, and to boot, he has no idea what she looks like, so she just trails him loosely, taking parallel streets and staying at a fixed radius from him until he gets away from outside observers.]

[ooc:She's an AI, but she's stuck in a mostly human body, so she'll get wounded and bleed just like a human would.

...Now for the sake of CR or something, and because it would humiliate the shit out of her, I think it'd be cool to have her somehow end up having to fish the Network. Just because she's an arrogant ass who doesn't want anyone else to see her in that state.]

[He stopped. There's no one around now...it's time.

Humans don't usually look up. Even if Naoi is, she doesn't want to get too close just yet. Two throws should catch him -- one that he might actually dodge, but the other aimed at where he would be had he done so.

She climbs the fire escape of a three-story building nearby and crouches low as she scoots over to the edge. Her knives are stashed all over her, mostly strapped to her legs and body, and she pulls two of them out and holds one in each hand.

Her AI mind rehearses the timing quickly. Pop up, the angle will be just so, release at certain velocity, twist the hand and wrist as such...and hopefully either the first or second should catch him on the body. She doesn't want to go for a neck or head shot because the body is a larger, more inertial, and more reliable target, and it has larger soft areas. She's not that strong, so she hopes gravity helps here.

Three...two...one...

She pops up just enough over the side of the rooftop that she can flip the two knives into the air, one after another. The first one is aimed at the left side of Naoi's ribs; the next is to the right, where she hopes he'll dodge if he sees the first one coming.]

[Fast! She ducks, but human bodies only have so much reaction time, and one of the bullets grazes the side of her head as she drops down. He's surprisingly accurate for some kid, and who knew he could use guns?

Well, that's a data point. Suddenly she is at a serious disadvantage. Knives are slow; bullets are fast. Guns are ranged; knives are...less ranged. She didn't have any good sight on what the gun was, though "handgun" is at least decent enough for an approximation of range. Either way, she's inside his damage radius.

The alleys are small here, but she's not exactly athletic. Very average, really. Trained enough to run around a starship, not nearly enough to be hurdling alleyways. She has to take the long way down and fight from the ground now, since he will be avoiding this rooftop.

She drops down each of the ladders -- boom boom boom goes the fire escape -- and then to the ground. He knows exactly where she is now, so she takes off at a sprint.

Damn, human bodies are not equipped for this by default. The Network is telling her his location, but right now she's open. Where he goes next will tell her what to do...]

[He's moving toward her. Right now, on their current trajectory, if she backs off to make any complex maneuvers, he'll just follow her and have her back. She dodges to the wall around which he stands, and realizes that she has no real choice now other than to press the offense, because at this point, defense vs. defense he wins. He's around the corner, probably catching his breath, and she hopes that he has been weakened by the knife. He's standing right there, so she'll dive around, immediately grab with her free hand for the gun, at least keep it pointed away long enough to get him right in the face--

Except he's not, he's crouched, and her Network analysis can't tell her either his position or what he's holding, and that shield takes the laser knife as she dives around the corner. A loud angry whine and a shower of sparks later, the lid is still mostly intact, although it's good for him that his fingers weren't in the way of the "blade."

Unlike him, she has no such barrier against weaponry, and a trash can lid wouldn't stop a bullet, anyway...]

[The gun is moving -- her hand missed it, because it was too low -- but instead of ducking away, she drops down and catches it in her shoulder. Something she has never felt before -- intense physical pain -- rushes through her, but the adrenaline is overriding it and she forces herself at the gun. If she can just disarm him, then she can take him apart at will...

Blood is soaking into her gray shirt now, but nothing vital has been hit -- even so, big holes in the body are still big holes whether or not they're in an important location, and she won't be able to keep this up.

She grabs for the gun arm, this time trying to pin his forearm and drive the laser-blade into it. She doesn't need to cut the arm off; doing damage to the tendons will prevent his hand from closing.

She hopes. Her mind is a little fuzzier than it usually is, because the biological rush is getting in the way. Damn human body.]

[She would have had him...maybe.

Except now the loud wailing in her human ears, the sudden presence of the second gun that she didn't see, and now the sudden flash of another influence in her mind have stalled her for too long. Green eyes meet red, and now the lightning-fast computation has slowed, curling in on itself as it tries to root out whatever is there, trying to free itself, getting caught up.

Which is the point where the bullets bite into flesh, that tiny fraction of pause, and now he's shooting wildly and there is blood coming from her shoulder and a graze on her arm and one of her ribs is aching like a hammer just pounded it in and then -- crack -- one of them gets her in the jaw.

The force of the shot throws her head back, and where the head goes, the body follows. Flecks of blood and bone fly out as it the bullet whittles the side of her face to a raw edge, tearing open her cheek and chin and landing somewhere in the lower part of her skull.

She lies back on the ground, vision pulsing and pounding as her brain tries frantically to shut down the pain, but it's not particularly possible; the human reactions have overwhelmed her.

She can still speak, but it hurts like being shot all over again just to move her jaw. She tries to move, but now it's away from him.

Then it hits her: he has her, if he wants.

Humans. Not again. Never again. Why...why did I? I said I...I...I don't...I...

No. No, she...did do that, didn't she? The City, the human body, all of it is getting to her. And now all she can hear is the ticking noise, and as she reaches up to try to cover the bleeding from her face, she activates the distress beacon that she programmed in the moment she arrived in the City...]
