[ The feed starts with Clary placing her device down, a pencil holding her hair on top of her head and her smile bright. She's in a cafe, a cup of coffee cooling in front of her and her sketchbook sitting beside that. ]

It's kind of weird how much of life is put on hold when you get here. I mean I know there's the literal pause but sometimes it's so easy to forget what we used to be like before. Like how I wanted to take art classes.

[ Another pencil - the one not buried in red locks - is lifted and twisted around her fingers. ] And I hate that I'm not drawing as much here. So I was thinking. Would anyone be interested in modelling for me? I can't pay you but I can provide coffee and a delicious cake of your choosing and it would be kind of nice to get to know people too. [ It would be nice to prove she's Jocelyn's daughter more than Valentines too, but her nightmares are notwithstanding. ] So okay, any takers? I promise it'll be as painless as possible.

[ A laugh and the tiniest hint of a blush. ] I'm from New York, the guy asleep on the subway is usually the only backdrop I've got.

People asleep on the tube are common mostly everywhere. Any takers?

[ Blowing on her coffee. ] If nobody says yes I'll just go back to ineffectually drawing Jace.

My sweet Clary - [Dramatism!!] - I volunteer.

[steleheart]

[ Grinning. ] My hero.

[ Not that she hasn't drawn Mae a half a dozen times, but her friend is interesting and beautiful and Clary enjoys sketching her anyway. ]

[brobeforehos]

I know. [Grinning back, and even bowing a bit. Hey, she gets coffee out of this, and the company is always great if it's Clary.]

I'll come join you, then.

[steleheart]

I'll get the cake and coffee ready.

[ She'd been so unused to have girl friends before Mae that this is still strange and new. ]

[And sure enough, it takes her about ten minutes to walk there from their apartment. She's made an effort, to give Clary something good to draw; brushed her hair and tied a silk scarf as a headband in it, white on pink, although her clothes are the same old combinations of jeans and a shirt with text on it, because it's a Sunday and who cares.

She steps into the café and walks over, taking a seat.]

I'm here for the modelling job.

[steleheart]

You look beautiful, dahling.

[ It's followed by a laugh. She has coffee already for her and giant slices of cake because of weakness. Flipping through her sketchbook to get a clean page.

Clary has more marks now - from her adventures with Jem - and it's possibly only because Mae knows about them that she can see them, like inky tattoos on her arms. ]

I thought about asking Jem if I could draw him too, he has such interesting eyes, but I don't know if he might swoon or be scandalised or something. How do you draw Victorians?

[brobeforehos]

With charcoal, I imagine. [She leans over to take her coffee mug, sipping and smiling to herself; it's just sweet enough, and it's endearing as hell that Clary knows how to order Mae's coffee right. Still smiling, she sets the mug down, and her expression turns more sly, more mischevous.]

Or naked and draped over a love seat, wearing impressive jewelry.

Well, I'd be happy to volunteer. My fiancee is an artist, back home. It'd be kinda nice to, I dunno, do somethin' artsy, even if I was just the model, y'know?

[steleheart]

[ Eyes crinkling at the corner. ] Could you imagine his poor face? No, I couldn't do that to him.

[ It feels weird to have gone so far as to enter the Underground with him and not tell anyone, but Clary knows he's ill and it's his secret to tell. ] I like him.

Yeah, sure, the cafe sounds great. I'll be right down.

[It only takes him about ten minutes to get there, and then he shows up, limp a little worse than usual, but also looking more cheerful than usual, looking around the cafe for her.]

Hi.

[ She waves at him, kind of hard to miss with her bright red hair. ] Thank you for coming over. Can I get you a coffee? Or tea? Or food? [ Because she's only a little bit awkward around people. ] Or all of the above.

[He waves back as he walks over to her table.]

Hey. Coffee sounds great, thanks.

[ She offers him the seat across from her then grabs her purse. ] I'll go grab it and then we can get to know each other.
