[Video Post]
[A flicker, a shudder, a shaking view of what seem to be...stars? Stars in a blue sky, a great nebula of stars...? No, it's a view of the City, from a rise just outside of town. The stars are the lights of the City itself. It's beautiful, in its way, from here, glowing and bright and glittering, with light in dark places like magic lanterns and strange flames burning in many colors. And now the noise of crowds of people--shouting and calling out and cheering and crying and singing--rises up through the night air. A view of the City at night, filled to overflowing with people and creatures, both newly arrived and long-time residents. Quite a sight. Quite a sight.
Ah, but the view changes--the device broadcasting this scene is turned, and the lights streak like meteors across the blue night.
The view is darker on this side. The blue deepens on towards black. And one red star (light?) burns faintly in the darkness. It brightens and glows suddenly. Someone exhales. Ah. That explains it: the burning end of a cigarillo. And now, a voice in the dark:]
Guess there's no helping it.
[Perhaps that voice is familiar.
If one looks carefully, that burning red star moves a little--the man who has it bitten well between his teeth is smiling. Just a little. Just a little. He looks away from the device and back out towards the City again. And, with the left hand that holds it, he snaps the Network device shut again, abandoning the feed to the dark, pouring more darkness over the darkness of the video already, and ending the recording in a--]

[ooc: And the Man With No Name, who had hitherto been hiding out as best he could out on the edge of the Wilderness, now finds himself obliged to come back nearer into town. Probably someone's demanding a delivery of monster meat or something. Who knows. In any event...he is open for 4th Walling! Go for it! Action or Network! I welcome you!]

[It's a short reply, yes, but he's actually kind of...interested in this apparently spontaneous philosophical statement.]

[Despite the face (which also bears its differences, this woman is far less haggard than Carla, never been half-dead and drenched in sorrow) the tone this woman uses is not one that Carla would have chosen. It's bland, slightly irritable. And she is irritated, sitting in an uncomfortable chair with a very large baby bump forcing her to slump.]
no subject
[Of course he notices the similarities. He's not sure what to make of them--yet, anyway. But he notices them.]

[Carla doesn't smoke, or drink, but she only used to give snide little talks like this when she was younger. Impetus is 38, not as wildly cruel as she was in her school days, but still endless condescending.]
no subject
[And...that's all he's got to say.]
no subject
You're killing yourself at an exponential rate, in short.
no subject
All right. I'll remember that.

[ he is now spending the rest of his time up there ... ]
action; do dee doo~
Well, he's hit the ground anyway.
Armed with a small knife that he has managed to pluck off an inexperienced camper far from home, a hefty rat creeps through the brush and notices the approaching red signal. If nothing valuable turns up from the source, at least he may have a ride. Walking out here...wherever here is-- it's not working for him. ]
action; I love you...so much...
As the one with the horse, he rides on, back down towards the lights (despite the crowd's there's work that's been done and therefore money to be obtained in exchange--and that's worth it).]
action; nothing beats old friends
There's a whiff of familiarity there. He pauses, unable to place it exactly. A scent? No, ridiculous! It's no matter trying to place the association because the time has come. Just as the horse approaches his current crouched position, he sticks out a long, thorny branch hoping to jar the horse into bucking its rider while at the same time discouraging it from running ahead.
There's nothing worse than chasing after a spooked nag on foot. ]
action;
But something isn't quite right. Noises. Something is scurrying around in the bushes nearby. It almost sounds like a rat crawling around in the brush. It almost smells like a greasy rat crawling around in the brush.
He pulls up and sits his horse, looking into the dark, listening. (He sets his cigarillo in a better place in his teeth.) A rat isn't trouble. A coyote or a wolf could be a little trouble. But a rat isn't trouble.]
action;
Hijo de puta-- the son of a bitch doesn't even know how to ride a horse. Come on.
[ The sounds now resembles something more like an attempt at whispering. A failed attempt. ]
Ah, excuse me! Excuse me-- yoohoo!
[ Plan B. Stand up from the brush and wave the branch...no. He throws that down quickly and instead waves his droopy hat. ]
I'm a little lost, señor, would you mind pointing me in the right direction?
action;
But there are a few things you just don't forget (endless complaints for 70 miles while riding double and being marched across Death Valley are two of them).
By that same token... You just never seem to learn. Sure, just yell at whoever's passing by and hope they don't kill you. Or take you prisoner. Or whatever.
Well, in any event, he did kind of wonder from time to time what happened to him. It doesn't feel quite like old times, but...
He takes the cigarillo out of his mouth and he almost smiles (as if anyone can see that in the dark). Now. How did it go again? Right.]
The way back to town isn't far. Not even seventy miles.
If you save your breath, I feel a man like you could make it.
[And now he does smile.]
action;
H-Hey. Hey, Blond!
[ A short spurt of laughter tumbles out of his mouth. ]
That's a joke, that's very funny.
[ He's not eying your ride for gold or anything as he approaches. No, that would be absurd. He's just trying to get a good look at an old friend. ]
action;
It is sort of funny, though, isn't it? Hence the slightest of slight smiles.
Maybe you ought to be glad you're not worth anything around here. Makes reunions with old friends that much less fraught.]
action; apologies x1000
You look well, my friend. Very well since the last time I saw you.
And me-- [ He gestures to himself. ] I must look well too since last time you nearly left me at the end of a rope!
action; no worries--I'll wait forever if I have to, just for another Tuco tag <3
[See, that's the important word in that phrase: nearly.]
action; well hopefully it won't take that long :P
I'm very thirsty, Blondie. I've been walking all day. Spare me some water and I can forget all that.
action;
Tuco, c'mon. Can you really forget all that--for certain and for keeps? You might be able to forget it for an hour or two, but it'll come back to you. And you probably can tell by the look on his face that that is exactly what he's thinking.
All the same...though going as slowly about it as possible, of course, he pulls his half-full canteen out and dangles it by the strap.]
All day, huh?
action;
[ That's his
newstory and he's sticking to it. All doubtful expressions aside, he gives a theatrical reach for the canteen, stumbling forward a few steps to really add some panache to the performance. ]You're a good man, a very good man.
action;
Yeah, that's what your mom said last night too.It's an impressive performance. He is a passable thespian.Bravo.]
It gets tough, out in the desert.
[I mean, he knows what it's like to walk across the desert with no water, Tuco. Tuco. Tuco.]
Re: action;
D,FDL; YOUR MOTHER, YOU SON OF A WHOREOnce he's able to get a hold of it, he yanks the canteen towards him and with sudden vigor begins to help himself. It's...quite messy, really.Then he lowers the near-empty canteen and looks back at the man on the horse, again uncertain. ]
What do they say-- oh, yes. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
[ And you, you sir are a hard one to kill. ]
I always knew you'd make it, you know.
action;
Yeah? Guess I figured the same about you.
[And he did, really, even if he did leave him in difficult--but not impossible--circumstances when last they parted ways: hands tied, no horse, four bags of gold (one broken open).
He just didn't quite expect to cross paths again. Ever.]
no subject
Guess not. But you don't mind all of us, do you?
no subject
No. Not all of you.
[A smile. Just for her.]
no subject
This is for you, you know.
no subject
It's good coffee too.]
no subject
The two of you look like you're doing well.
no subject
[Horse, you are a glutton and you clearly remember this woman.]
There's another horse--up at the barn. If you...get a chance, she might be glad to see you too.
[He would be referring to Sunny, of course.]
no subject
Really?
[ Excuse her while she positively lights up. ]
I don't suppose you're heading there, are you?
no subject
Maybe.
[Yeah, he is.]
no subject
[ He's probably going to be sort of scoundrel-y at her again, when she thinks about it... but right now, she doesn't care. ]
no subject
[How's that for being sort of scoundrel-y?]
no subject
no subject
[He looks back behind him. Hmm.]
If you don't mind riding double...
[...they can head up there right now.]
no subject
Do you want me in front or in back? [ ... heh ]
no subject
Probably easier if you hold on behind.
[Here, he's offering a hand to pull her up.]
