I hope you guys realize how long it took me to type this up. 

I need some sort of anti-murphyonic field  creator or something because I had to start it over about six times. 

It was worth it to announce the coat though.  You are awesome, Mercy.

Anti-murphyonic field. You know Murphy's law right? Everything that can go wrong and all that?

So does the field stop things from going wrong or something?

That's the idea. I know a normal person can put up a circle because it stops magic from coming in, but if I'm the source of the magic it doesn't do a damn thing to help.

I-I'm sorry. It's not really an everyday feature in my world. [ Liar, liar. ]

It wasn't an every day thing or you just didn't get to see it there? I pretty much believe every world has some magic in it. How else would we get here?

Maybe. It's just never something I believed in. Until now, anyway.

So, um, are you a wizard?

[harrydresden]

Hard to blow it off when you're getting cursed every few days.

We're still not sure if the curses are magic. They could be hallucinogens for all we know?

[ Just throwing that out there. Personally, he cares less about deciphering the City than about surviving in it. ]

Really? Like Mr. Howl? Do you sell spells too?

So everyone just hallucinates at the same time? Seems kind of complicated.

[Have a sigh at hearing Howl be the first wizard to come to mind] Yeah like him. I do spells and potions.

Infusing certain chemicals in our food and water wouldn't make it too unlikely. The 'Deities' seem to watch all our moves on the Network. It wouldn't be hard for them to learn our patterns and synchronize 'curses.' They're capable of much worse.

[ Orz. He is sorry. Or he would be if, y'know. He had a sense of empathy. ] Really? What kind? [ He could always use a spell or two. ]

But would everyone have the same hallucination?

Evocation and Thuamturgy. I'm better at Evocation.

The Deities are capable of mass mind-control. So why not this?

Mass mind-control is something that can be accomplished through magic. It's against the Laws but it's doable. And easier than trying to get everyone to hallucinate the same thing with drugs.

Evocation is the quick and dirty magic using a focus like gouts of fire, or mini-tornadoes or ice darts. And Thaumaturgy is creating a link between an object and a person. Think voodoo doll. Or a tracking spell. There's other kinds like Kinetomancy for energy and movement or Verisimilomancy for illusions. My specialties are evocation and thaumaturgy.

The 'Laws'?

That's ... wow. [ He's fought with and worked with beings with similar powers. In his world, they're called Contractors. They pay for using their powers with an obeisance. But it's against his training to reveal that. Instead, he affects awed surprise. ] So can anyone learn these abilities? Or do they have to be born with them? Naturally gifted?

Laws of Magic. Like don't try to control someone's mind or the wardens try and execute you.

You're born with them usually but they don't manifest until you're a teenager and there are varying degrees of magical ability. Anyone can do a ritual. That's like putting a coin in a vending machine and a set outcome happens but you're usually using something else's power and you have to be careful or that something else might start using you. I see a lot more warlocks who do ritual magic.

...If that's true, the Deities would be at the top of the execution list.

I see. [ Tucking the details away. ] So do you sell spells or potions non-wizards can use? Or is that not something you approve of?

[harrydresden]

If this were my world, yeah they probably would if they were wizards.

I sell potions occasionally. No love potions though so don't ask.

I was more interested in protective spells. Or tracking spells. Against bullies.

[ He uses the word bully. But he means enemy. ]

Tracking against bullies? That seems kind of counter productive. Is someone picking on you?

Just to know if they're nearby.

You might say that. The City has it's share of predators.

[ Hei is one too. But, as always, he's up against stronger opponents. It's in his best interest to utilize all the resources he can get. ]

Harry's just happy he can get messages out on these things at this point

Hmm, sort of an alarm spell or something? Make you sneeze when someone has ill intentions close by? Most potions only last half an hour to an hour once you drink them. And you'd only be able to do a spell if you had magic already. I guess in my position I'd do a speed potion so I could get away fast or a veil to hide.

A sneeze-alarm might be too much. I'd go off everytime I was in a crowd. [ This is Hei's way of saying no one has perfectly good intentions. ] Especially if people were hit with an immorality curse or something.

A speed potion and veil don't sound too bad. [ They would make nighttime recon easier. ] Is there any way I could use those?

This sounds painful for everyone :)

You have to get away that often hmm? I can sell you a thermos of each. The potions would be good for about a week or so veil thermos would be good for about an hour so if you want to divide it up for usefulness feel free. Speed one good for about a mile.
