[A slender teen with silver hair and silver eyes, leaps out of the fountain with the device, and a cane in his hand. His clothes aren't modern. 

He's intent, looking for something. A giant worm to be specific.

It takes a moment for him to register that the sights and smells of a damp London day have vanished. He looks into the screen.]

Hello, I am sorry to trouble people, but has anyone seen a party of men, a girl wearing a wedding dress and another female wearing men's clothes run through here?

[His brow furrows and he suppresses a cough.]

I know they sound like an odd assortment of people, I assure you, I do not joke with my description of them.

My names is Jem.

[ She sees his marks because she can now, immediately switches to video because how can she not? He's another shadowhunter and one she doesn't know. It's already causing an itch of intrigue in the back of her mind. ]

I'm sorry, I haven't seen anyone in a wedding dress recently. [ Noting the fountain and knowing how the City likes to bring people in. ] I think you've been dragged in by the City. I don't think your friends are going to be here.

[silvering]

[This was a device that Henry would dearly love to get his hands on. Henry would be intrigued to see how pictures of a person could be made to see and move.

Jem pushes the damp locks out of his eyes and appears calm. There is a coldness around his head. He can longer sense Will...he focuses on her word,]

How can I see a city drag a person anywhere?

[Unless it was powered by magic. Was Mortmain trying to separate them by another means than he had already tried?]

Would I be able to locate this place on a map?

[steleheart]

It's --. [ Magic, she thinks. ] Um, have you used a device before? Because if not I could come to the fountain. It might be better.

[ And he's a shadowhunter. She doesn't really want to talk about it over the device but she wants to let him now all the same. ]

[silvering]

I have never seen anything like it. [Jem admits.

She looks harmless and sounds it. There is a kindness in her eyes that Tessa and Charlotte both have. His fingers tighten on his cane. He needs to get back to them. If the device proves to be key to it he must learn how to work it.]

I would be much obliged to you for your help. [He inclines his head with a small smile.]

I had not seen a moving picture before yours.

[steleheart]

I -- oh.

[ She knows some people here are unused to them but that might mean that either this boy hasn't ever seen a cinema or he's from a world where they don't exist. But she's moving out of her shared apartment immediately, her feed blurring before she smiles again. ]

It's called a video. It's like ... live action I guess? But you can also record them and play them back later if you need to.

[silvering]

[Live action feed? Jem feels more adrift than the first time he had set foot on English soil.

He sits down the edge of fountain. He figures it has already done its worst to him.

Slowly, as he puzzles it out,]

Do you mean I could relive this conversation via the device?

[steleheart]

You can, but I'm not that interesting.

[ She smiles and the outside world blooms behind her when she pushes out of the building. ] They're kind of tricky but as long as you have someone to show you, you'll be fine.

[ Video ]

[stelecharm]

An odd assortment sums it up.

[ The video feed doesn't give him too much to work with, but it doesn't take a genius to know he's new. ] But I can't say that I've seen them around, and I think I'd remember if I had.

[silvering]

[Jem's eyes flicker as he studies the surroundings as they change behind the girl. There is no familiar about what he can see around her or around him.]

May I have your name of the girl who is saving me from this device?

[steleheart]

It's Clary. [ She doesn't give him her last name simply because she doesn't know what to say. Fairchild might put him at ease but she isn't Clary Fairchild. Morgenstern should never be placed beside the name her mother gave her. And Fray doesn't sound right. ]

[silvering]

[Jem's sharp eyes catch the faded lines of a rune. There is a sharp intake of breath.]

It was an odd situation in which we found ourselves.

I am sorry but I do not recognise your face.

[silvering]

Mine is Jem Carstairs. [He is all Victorian formality in the exchanging of names.]

Yours is very unusual. I like it.

[steleheart]

It's short for Clarissa. [ A self conscious laugh. ] But I keep getting told I just sound like a herb either way.

[ She turns a corner and spies the fountain, jogging up to him with a wave. Up close she sees the curl of a mark at his neck and smiles, ending the feed. ] Hi.

[silvering]

Herbs have their own appeal.

[Jem slips the device into his pocket and stands to meet her.]

My pa..friend if he was here would doubtlessly call you be variety of herb names.

[steleheart]

I've heard them all. [ From Jace before they fell in love - but did they fall or was it love at first sight? ]

You're soaking. I should've brought a towel. [ Inwardly kicking herself. ] There's a cafe just down there - [ Pointing. ] They probably have a hand dryer. Or paper towels at the least.

[silvering]

It is quite alright. This city is warmer than London.

[Jem is quick to reassure her. He doesn't want a fuss made over him by a stranger. A little water won't hurt him.]

However I would not say no to a few paper towels to remove some of the excess water.

[He makes a move to offer her his harm and then with draws it with a soft laugh.]

I am sorry. I would offer you my arm but then would end up wet too.

[steleheart]

And they chivalry is dead.

[ She starts to walk towards the cafe beside him, glancing over every so often. Had she grown up in the shadowhunter world she might be able to think of someway to let him know but she doesn't. Even the name Carstairs doesn't ring a bell. ]

You're from London though? That's so cool.

[ Video ]

[stelecharm]

Yeah, I guessed that much, which is probably why I'm not going to ask.

[ Snarkiness aside, he looks amused, but his life's hectic enough without a weird circus to chase down. ]

Speak for yourself, you're the new kid in town. [ His smirk seems to freeze in place as he eyes him suspiciously. ] As far as I'm aware, we've never met.

[silvering]

I sincerely hope it isn't.

[And Jem means it, it is an important part of how he acts.

He strolls along with her. His hand leans more heavily on the cane than it needs to, ready to move into an attacking position if something were to strike out at him]

Have you ever been? It is a beautiful city despite its grime.

[steleheart]

No. I want to when I'm older though. My mom would just have a fit if I went anywhere now.

[ When she gets out of the City she fully expects a lecture on going to Idris without a proper plan, but until then she's fine. She even steps forward to get the door of the cafe before he can, glancing down at the cane curiously. ] That's beautiful.

It will make for an interesting story one day.

[When he was sure the giant worm was dead.

Jem smile is open, there is no hint of suspicion or animosity.]

I live at the London Institute. It has been awhile since I have met a Shadowhunter who I do not have some knowledge of.

[silvering]

IF you were to travel alone, I am sure most people would have a fit. It isn't safe for a lady.

[Jem looks startled at her forward behaviour. Even Charlotte would let him or Will hold the door open for her. He covers his surprise by holding the cane up closer for her inspection.]

[steleheart]

[ Grinning. ] I'm going to have to explain the City and time travel to you once you're dry.

[silvering]

It looks like I will have a lot to learn.

[Jem is getting an eyeful from girl's passing by in low cut tops. He is carefully not trying to stare.]

There is nothing familiar here at all.

[ Video ]

If you stick around long enough, maybe we'll reach the story exchange part of our relationship.

[ That grabs his attention, though; the London Institute isn't somewhere he's ever been, but it's not a secret that there's one there. ]
