[The video opens on a scene in the park. It's propped up against something.

Gabriel in one of her long gowns as always. She has some seeds in her hand, and she is is periodically scattering them on the ground, watching as birds flock to them. Occasionally she allows one of the birds to land on her hand and eat directly from it.]

Good morning, everyone. I hope, now that we have dispensed with the previous days' revelry, that those of you inclined to indulge in such things might have gotten it out of your systems. At least for a little while?

My condolences to anyone suffering the aftereffects. [She doesn't really intend for there to be a serves-you-right tone in her voice, but there kind of is.]

Michael's predicament made me start thinking, however.

There seem to be a lot of pets about. Is there anything like an animal shelter in this City? Please forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered. I do not wish to be a burden, but I haven't been able to find a clear answer anywhere else.

[The birds suddenly scatter madly as if death itself was coming after them or a very large cat. Possibly the same thing in their little minds. The cause of their fear appears to be a man wearing sunglasses and bundled up in a coat. He seems normal... well except for the fact that he also seems to be a very powerful kind of undead...

Which probably explains why the pigeons are scared of him]

[Speaking of pets, Hatter happens to be petting one of nirs...a giant monster goat.]

With the amount of pets, One would think a veterinary would be the more pressing of jobs. But it does seem, like always, life will sustain and grow.

You've never been hungover, have you?

Never.

[Gabriel stares at it curiously. Even a goat can be pleasing to her eye, although she cannot say the same for Hatter. Still, she does seem to consider the suggestion seriously.]

Perhaps. But a veterinary hospital might be better run by someone with medical experience, which is not my personal area of expertise, I am afraid.

Oh!

[Gabriel makes a soft sound as all the birds flutter away. As first, she is bewildered, until she sets sight on the man in front of her. Immediately, something about him grabs her; the aura from him isn't like any angel or demon she's ever seen, but it's not human either.

She steps a little closer to him and offers a wary:]

Hello.

If I hadn't expected it, I might be disappointed.

Only you would be disappointed by good behavior.

Doesn't it get dull to you?

Of course not. Why should it?

It's so confining.

I find it liberating. I never need to hide or fear, because I know I have nothing to be ashamed of.

[Gabriel pauses. She doesn't usually sink this low, but Raphael somehow manages to draw out every small ounce of pettiness that resides within her.]

At any rate, can anything be more confining that your bedroom? I'm not even sure it's good for you to be on this device right now.

[An enormous raven is circling in the sky above Gabriel, watching the little birds fly down and eat. Utsuho thinks the pigeons look far tastier than the seeds, so she spirals down in the air, eventually coming to rest on the ground near Gabriel and watching the flock of birds at her feet. A third eye burns in the raven's dark chest, red-orange and slitted. A magical little orb that is clearly the City's comm device is strapped to one talon. She has been drawn to the flock and Gabriel by the little video image in the orb.

If Gabriel has any angelic "identify/gauge supernatural" abilities, Utsuho will show up on that radar as a demon.]

Michael's your pet?

[Immediately, Gabriel tenses up. She can sense this being's aura; it's unmistakably demonic, and Gabriel does not historically get along well with demons.]

Michael — no, he's not my pet. He's... a friend, you could say. He is like a brother to me.

[Her voice takes on a sharp edge.]

Why do you ask?

[Utsuho has no idea why she looks so tense, but her plumage fluffs up a bit in not quite a threatening stance, but in a "don't start any trouble" sort of defensive pose. An acrid brimstone smell is rising from her feathers now. Still, she's going to answer the question.]

Oh. I have one of those. Orin is my best friend too, even though she's a cat and I'm a raven. And I asked because you said that Michael had a problem and you needed an animal shelter for pets.

[She glances at the pigeons now. This person doesn't look particularly powerful. Maybe she thinks she owns the pigeons or something. Well, Utsuho can show her a thing or two about that if she complains.]

But you have nothing to do except bask in your own self-righteousness and berate all the sinners. And feed birds.

[a sigh, as he reaches for a bite of plain toast, chopped into agonizing pieces]

Oh, I don't know, this is as good a distraction as any.

[The thing about the cat makes her smile a little in spite of herself.] Friendship can begin in the strangest places. [But she's still a little on edge.]

Ah. Well. Michael has a pet. His cat had kittens and I don't think there's going to be room for them all when they're older. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.

[Gabriel follows Utsuho's gaze, curiously, wondering what she is — oh. Hm.

Tentatively, Gabriel offers Utsuho a handful of seed. She's never met a demon bird before, and Utsuho seems a good deal more civil than most other demons she's known.]

[She frowns.]

I've heard coffee is supposed to help. I'll make you some when I get home.

Oh, for — I don't feel obligated. Is it so hard to believe I might simply want to do something nice for you?

Than to stomach your sanctimoniousness.

Try to relax. That's not what concerns me.

[It's keeping it down.]

[Wary like for wary. Theo stiffens and keeps a good bit of distance from her, but then smiles cautiously friendly, after all she hasn't done anything horrible to him yet. Up close it's possible to tell that yes, he is breathing and does have a pulse, despite being apparently, undead. He also is, if she can tell these matters, definitely divine.]

Hello... I'm sorry am I bothering you?

[Utsuho completely ignores the birdseed and snatches up a pigeon that has wandered a little too close, flicking out one long leg and immobilizing it in one claw. A seething blast of red-orange hellfire scorches it to a crisp in a few seconds.]

Oh, the hell cats! I saw them. Can they do this?

[In a swarm of golden firelight, the raven body is gone, replaced by a young woman in white and green with black hair, huge black wings, and the same third eye in her chest. She doesn't think anything of the transformation as she crosses her legs and starts picking at the burnt pigeon meat.]

Because if they can, maybe they're smart and we can be friends.

True enough, although it would be more likely that you could operate one than another we might speak of.
