[Action at the House // Open to Uhura]

[Many strange things have happened to Chekov during his time in the City. Waking up as a female, however, is a novelty, and he reacts by racing to Uhura's room (thank goodness for sleepwear with give). His female body is five-foot nothing and the shoulder-length curls are sticking up every which-way.]

Uhura? What do I do?

[Not the cleverest of questions, but he's surprised, his clothes are too tight in some places and too large in others, and it only makes sense to consult the closest woman.]

[Private Video // Filtered to Lucy]

[Do you know this curly-haired girl, Lucy? Hint: she's usually your boyfriend. Chekov doesn't appear overly upset about this curse.]

Lucy, this is Pavel. I may need more advice regarding this curse than Uhura will be willing to provide.

[Action // Open]

[After acquiring appropriate attire and getting over the initial surprise of waking up with a... ah, different body, Chekov spends the weekend playing a game of let's-see-who-can-recognize-me with acquaintances (when he's not at work, of course, as a gender swap is no excuse to call in sick).

He might be seven inches shorter and curvier than normal, but that accent is all too easy to identify.]

[As he's lucky enough not to be cursed today-- not seventeen, or an animal, or carrying his heart, or any other ridiculous thing-- Isaak is going about his business as usual, sitting out at one of his preferred cafes and drinking coffee as he catches up with the usual chaos of the Network.

He won't look twice at passing girls, unfortunately. Sorry, Pavel, don't take it personally.]

[Uhura is in the middle of putting on pants when Chekov bursts into her room.]

Chekov, what the hell is going on?!

[And then she notices.]

Chekov?

[Fortunately, Pavel is keeping an eye out for friends. He has to be honest with himself: he likes the way he looks now that Uhura has shown him how to apply very basic makeup and Lucy helped him shop for appropriate attire. (Some may mistake the enthusiasm with which Chekov is approaching this curse indicates no small amount of sexual confusion. In actuality, he's just comfortable with himself and not inclined to do things halfway.

Pavel stops at Isaak's table and flashes him a smile. gesturing to an empty seat across from Isaak.]

Do you mind if I sit here?

[It didn't actually occur to Chekov to, oh... knock. Upon seeing Uhura's state of semi-undress, he promptly turns around.]

I woke up as a woman. Is there something I should do? Do I need to be prepared for menstruation?

Pavel! O M G. You are a totally hot and adorable girl.

Not that I'm surprised. Okay, what do you need?

[Isaak looks up, an eyebrow faintly arched because it's not like there aren't other seats available. The face isn't familiar and-- as Chekov knows-- he's not so easily charmed by a pretty girl, but the accent's enough at least to catch his attention.]

If you like,

[he answers easily, with a loose toss of his hand toward the unoccupied chair. He's not at his friendliest, but he's willing to wait out her ulterior motives.]

[He's very obviously flattered.]

Does that mean I'm still allowed to kiss you?

Ah--since I'm female, I would like to experience what it is like fully. I have never had an opportunity to be someone else like this. Uhura has agreed to show me how to apply makeup, but I may need different clothes...? [He pulls at his t-shirt, which is rather tight around the bust. The hem almost reaches his knees.]

[He sits, very pleased that Isaak doesn't know who he is. So far, everyone has guessed correctly based solely on his accent. It's rather narrow-minded of them, assuming that every short, curly-haired Russian is Chekov.

Pavel wants to see how long he can fool Isaak, but it occurs to him that he doesn't know how to start a conversation without sounding too much like himself.]

What are you doing?

[As he should be!]

Uhm...duh. Also, I'll take you to the bar and show you how girls get free drinks.

Oh! Why don't you come over and see if mine fit. I think you're gonna need a bra though and I'm totally jealous because I'm pretty sure your boobs are bigger than mine.

Girls can get free drinks?

[This is news to him. How exciting!

Chekov takes this opportunity to look down at his new breasts. They're certainly bigger than he would personally like, especially on him.] I will do that. See you soon?

[So modest. Uhura finishes pulling up her pants, grinning a little. So cute. So panicked.]

Take a breath, Chekov. You're fine. And I doubt you have to worry about your period this weekend. But I can't make any promises.

[Isaak has the disadvantage of being less familiar with the City's regular batch of monthly inconveniences; he's not yet used to thinking of these as likely possibilities. Probabilities.

But he's no fool, and he has to assume a Russian girl sitting with him isn't a matter of coincidence. The fact that she's unfamiliar doesn't mean anything; the City's large enough to account for that, but presumably she knows at least a bit about him. And of course, with their Network, that means very little as well.]

Nothing in particular,

[he answers, giving her an appraising look over the edge of his sunglasses. He switches to Russian for his next question, for no particular reason but curiosity.]

Have we met?

[Hey, it's rude to look at people you aren't intimate with when they aren't fully clothed, and periods seem so agonizing. He can't quite stop looking slightly horrified.]

How much does it hurt?

Nothing?

[In response to that question, Pavel rests his chin on interlaced fingers and tries to imitate the look that Lucy gives him when she's trying to distract him from something by being cute.]

Yes, once or twice. You don't remember me?

Of course girls can get free drinks! I never took money to a bar when I lived in Alabama, especially if Jilly was going with me.

[She grins at him looking down and nods.] Yup! I'll be here.

[Come now, Pavel, you ought to know better. That look might have a better shot of working were he his usual self, though even then it's exceedingly doubtful. He's far too good, and far too young.

Still, that's a bit of a tell. He smiles slightly.]

You're cursed.

[Which narrows things down a bit.]

Pavel Andreievich? [He sips his coffee. It's the best guess, given how young she-- he?-- is. And once the thought occurs, he thinks, he can see the resemblance.] Or should I say Andreyevna?

Every day I learn something new from you.

[And with that and a smile, Chekov heads out in his nightclothes and a pair of now-too-big sneakers. Soon enough, Lucy has a five-foot tall young lady knocking at her door.]

[That look has never worked for him with Uhura or Lucy, which has led him to believe that only females can do it effectively. He has ignored the possibility that imitation is not his calling.

When Isaak guesses correctly, he puts a hand to his forehead in dramatic mock dismay and slumps in his seat.]

Ay, no one is fooled. Yes, and I think that, while this lasts, I am changing my name to Polina Andreyevna.

You're not a good enough liar.

[Which is a high compliment, actually. For all his own secrecy Isaak values honesty quite a bit, and the fact that Pavel is apparently terrible at lying is rather charming, in its own odd way.]

I suppose that suits. You look quite put together, has this happened to you before?

I'm like a library of useful information that hides in nooks and crannies.

[When Pavel knocks on the door, Lucy flings it open, hesitating only a moment before she throws her arms around girl!Pavel and kisses him on the mouth.] Hi.

I knew there was something that I forgot to learn.

[He really is terrible. Consider it the result of coming from a family that considers honesty one of the greatest of virtues and a society that is more open than modern society.]

Thank you, but no, this is the first time. Uhura taught me to apply makeup and Lucy helped with clothing. I have been taught that it's important to embrace new experiences and to cultivate new points of view; I thought I would take advantage of this curse to do those things.

[He makes a face.] So far, I have learned that being female takes more time than I am willing to sacrifice.

[This isn't wholly accurate since his two mentors are rather particular about their own appearances. Their lessons had been very thorough.]

[It's good that some things remain normal today. Chekov hugs Lucy back, somewhat amazed by how much taller she seems. It makes kissing slightly less neck-breaking, though!]

Hello. [And, being ultra-observant:] I'm as tall as you today.

That depends on a lot of things. Things like stress and exhaustion can make it worse. So can coming off birth control or anything else that affects your hormones. But mostly it just depends on your body. Some women have to call in sick to work, and others hardly feel a thing.

[She pulls back with a grin, taking his hand and pulling him inside.] You are. Also relatively the same size, boobs excluded, which is why I think we can find something in my closet to fit you. I hope you're willing to do dresses, because that's like 90% of my wardrobe.

[Heading up the stairs now.] Also heels, but I can probably find a couple pairs of flats if you can't manage to walk in heels.

[Society and Isaak haven't always seen eye to eye on any number of things, but he'd like that aspect of Chekov's. Likely condemn it as impossibly idealistic, but well. Everyone is a product of his time, in the end.]

Somehow I'm not surprised to learn that. [He smiles, again, genuinely amused at 'Polina's' attitude.]

I can't imagine most people are so open-minded under those circumstances.

[He'd like to think he would keep his cool, but it must be dreadfully inconvenient to say the least.]
