002 - Intentional Audio -> Accidental Video

[ In all honesty Jesse hasn't intended to make another post. He much rather just sit back at the Welcome Center and watch things go by him. But when he wakes up on one cold November morning with blood-stained sheets and pillow and realizing that doesn't know where the hospital is, he's pretty much out of options. It hurts too much to text like last time, so while he tried to use audio, the blood on his fingers made them slip and press on the video option instead.

In the delicate handling of his little network device, the video screen seems to have blood smeared around the edges.

For some reason, his communication device seems to be hold shakily - yet Jesse shows both hands cradled his chest, blowing at them while his arms are equally cut up, the blood staining the shirt he arrived in. ]

Where's the hospital? I woke up with all the cuts, I don't remember getting them yesterday.

Oh, geez--Jesse? Hang on a minute, okay? I'll be right there and we can go to the hospital.

[ That's when Jesse realizes his mistake. ]

No, I just need directions. I can get there faster than anyone else if I know where it is.

[While this is confusing, it isn't the most confusing thing that has happened today.]

Um. Go to the fountain and then head north, and then, when you can't go north anymore, take the road that goes right. The hospital's a couple blocks away from there.

Are you really okay to go alone?

[ Jesse isn't quite interested in explaining his powers just yet.

If course, he just remembers another bug problem, ]

I don't have any money.

I can give you some. They'll treat you for free at the clinic, though, if that's what you're worried about.

Hey, you're Jesse, right? Do you have anyone coming for you yet?

[ There's a very obvious showing of internal turmoil, as though Jesse is trying to figure out what to do next. Jesse doesn't even remember the last time he visited one, or if he had at all. What can you do at a hospital? Jesse has no clue. ]

Can you meet me at the hospital?

[ He wished he doesn't have to ask for help. Really, ask him to make a choice on joining a war and he'll do it. Ask him to go to the hospital and he'll wuss out. ]

I'm going to the hospital now.

Okay. I'm sorry you got hit like this. It's not something that should happen to a kid.

Of course. I'm already here visiting some friends.

[ Jesse's lips twitched at the word "kid", but he is careful not remark on it. ]

Does this stuff always happen here? Is this one of the curses?

[Noting and filing away the lip twitch for future non-kid-referencing reasons.]

This is one of the curses, which means it should end at midnight.

So I don't have to go to the hospital?

Oh. Okay.

I'll be there in a sec.

[ The wonders of teleportation: Jesse never knew he had them until he thought about going to Australia to hide back home. ]

You should go. They can give you something for the pain and make sure that none of the injuries are going to be a problem today.

[That's handy.]

Jesse! I'm glad you got here so fast.

Are you hurt?

No. So far so good. Sometimes curses don't hit everyone at exactly midnight, but I may have dodged a bullet today.

Do you have someone to get you to the hospital?

I'm going over there now.

But are you going alone?

[ Jesse makes sure he teleported at first to the fountain. When he figures out which direction is north, he makes a few teleporting jumps to cover the walking distance where he finally sees the parking lot of the hospital. He runs over to the doors and enters, seeing the woman. ]

Hi.

I can make it. I know where it is.

Look, let me just get you there, or I can call someone. No one should have to go to the hospital alone, and no offense, but you don't look so hot.

[ Argh, what is it with adults trying to put Jesse between a rock and a hard place? (Or between a rock or an end of the world for that matter.) He doesn't really want to talk about his powers at all, but he knows omitting stuff just sounds weird. ]

There's a lady I'm going to meet. Her name is Penny, she's at the hospital.

[Darn them and their interest in seeing an 11-year-old kid taken care of.]

Okay. How far are you from the hospital?

[ Jesse just doesn't have the highest esteem in adults' interests in Jesse's own. His parents lied, so everybody else does at some point. ]

Not far at all.

[ It only takes a minute or two to get there. Jesse has to go to the fountain first and follow the directions from there. ]

[This is not okay, but what's he going to do?]

Okay. If you start getting lightheaded, call for help immediately.

I will, Mr. Banner.

[Heck, he could have popped into existence two feet from her and Penny wouldn't have thought twice about it as long as he was there and not bleeding to death somewhere.]
