[ the feed flickers on to to show a wide swath of bright sky and leafy greenery. There's also someone off muttering on the side and a periodic thud as other, random things hit the ground. ]

Okay, so I have a weird whatever thing; some coins, although certainly none I've ever seen before; and my sword. Whoever just left me here could have at least had the grace to leave me some food. Even Merlin can do a better job then this.

[ there's a pause, before the rustle of clothing is heard ]

Right, well, there's a lake nearby. If I keep heading due west... [ he's spouting nonsense, he doesn't know where he is, but he did believe he spied a lake in the vicinity. It was as good of a place as any to start. ]

Very well, best to get on with it. [ Arthur's face shows briefly as he bends to scoop up his random collection of things. It's not pleased, but it's not angry either. It's showing nothing but determination. He may be a prince, but he's a resourceful one too! ]

I think the 'weird whatever thing' is what's referred to around here as the Device. Also, hello. Welcome to the City.

[Know how they say you don't fully realise what you have until you don't have it anymore? Merlin's been fully understanding that kind of thing quite well while he's been here. It's been oddly boring without Arthur around, even if things have constantly been happening and he's had plenty of quite entertaining people around him, honestly.

But it's just not the same.

So seeing this? You can't blame him for being overjoyed, despite Arthur being... well. Arthur.]

[ There's a crash and an abrupt yelp. Someone's stubbed their toe on a root. After a second, there's a slight zing as a sword is drawn. ]

Show yourself, creature!

[ffff. The look she's giving the device right now.] I'm not a creature. The strange thing you found? Pick it up and look at it.

[ he's staring at the device with extreme distrust now after that first encounter with the disembodied voice coming from the receiver. ]

So you know, Merlin, huh? Dare I even ask how?

[ Whoops! Just fell off his seat there. ]

I should have known you'd be here.

[ This was highly disconcerting. He can't have a servant trapped inside of a box. Who's going to wash his clothes! Not that, you know, he's concerned at all. For Merlin.

... Nope.

... Alright. Who does he have to kill? Spill it! ]

[He chuckles, so very gleefully, and looks around before he scrambles to move.]

I, uh... Did you say there was a lake? I'll come get you, uhm, I just need to... check something, and--

Just. Go to the lake and stay there, alright? You can do that, can't you?

Hah! As if I'll fall for your sorceress ways.

[ He's just going to poke it with his sword instead. Don't mind him! Except do, please. ]

[Facepalm. It's the only answer.] I'm....I'm not a sorceress.

[A sigh before she looks at him again.] My name is Charlie. Put the sword down. And then I'll come find you and help you. Okay?

Well of course I can do that. I'm not stupid, Merlin. And how are you planning to get me when you're stuck inside a box!

[ He's pacing, oh dear. Best to run from him! At least he's careful to step over the device and not on it. That wouldn't do in the least. ]

...sometimes I wonder. I'm not in the box, Arthur.

[Never mind that he kind of thought the same, at first. Ahem.]

I'm on the other side of it; I've got one of my own, and they're connected somehow. I don't know exactly how it works, but someone called it a phone. They've got all kinds of weird things around here that has something to do with energy and stuff. I dunno.

And how do I know if I can trust you? I've been abducted from home, set out in the middle of the woods, I'm talking to a box and you don't think this is strange?

[ to be perfectly frank, he thinks he's going quietly mad ]

[ don't think he didn't catch that! But he'll let it pass. It has to be hard living inside a box, no matter what Merlin's trying to say. ]

And you really expect me to believe that? Very well. If what you're saying is true, then I will see you at the Lake. Please try and not make me wait too long?

[ because then he'll fret and start doing something stupid. It's what he does. ]

Because I've also been abducted from home and found myself talking to a strange box and found out the best thing to do is let people help.

Well, if we're being nice enough to even say please, I suppose I have to.

[He raises his eyebrows briefly, in a mocking manner, but his expression is quite sincere otherwise, and he nods.]

I'll be quick, and then you can see for yourself.

... So this isn't the first time this has happened?

[ Just give him a second. Shifting priorities are happening here. Clearly, Charlie must be a damsel in distress! ]

[ he was being sarcastic. He snorts. ] We'll see about that. As if you've ever been quick at anything in your life.

[ he bends over and scoops up the device, depositing it in his coin purse. Looks like he has a lake to get to. ]

It's happened to everyone here. [Don't tell her that. She'd fall over laughing so hard.]

[Arthur gives him too little credit! As always. A lot of the time, when Merlin seems to be slow with something, it might be because he's busy saving this prat's hide. Of course, said prat doesn't know, so what can he do. Ah well.

And so, after he's checked with Edmund to make sure it's okay to drag Arthur there, and sent out a message filtered from Arthur, he rushes off, chewing on his lip.

He's very, very excited to see Arthur, but there's also this gut-clenching worry about it. A lot of people here know of his abilities, possibly everyone at this point, and he's really, really worried that something will slip to Arthur and... Well, at least here he can be sure that he won't risk getting executed for it, so a part of him wonders if maybe that means he should tell Arthur.

...

But not yet, at least, so he can worry about that a little later. It's more important to actually find Arthur now, because he can't know for sure which lake Arthur is at and while the biggest one is closest, it's... pretty big. But he'll check that one, and hopefully he'll be lucky.

He manages to find that pretty quick at least, and almost trips on a root as he steps over to the edge of it and looks around, trying to see something.]

Arthur?!

...oh. Oh, dear. Oh, you'll be wanting John. And I'd hoped he'd keep well and true and available for the littlest while longer. To think.

[ Arthur raises an eyebrow ] Are you mad? What would I want with a John? [ he knows of several with that name, but no business with any of them that's particularly pressing at the moment. Considering, oh... I don't know. He's been abducted. ]

[ what in the world indeed. Just how many people are in this thing? ]

Apparently. This is no forest I've familiar with. [ and he's been in a few! ]
