Jess?

[Sam looks almost as if he doesn't realize the camera is on, his eyes vague and staring. At the same time, there's a grim sort of determination lined in his features. The words seem to come from a long way away, with effort. In his own mind, Sam is reviewing the evidence, the clues to her disappearance, piecing together the conspiracy of demons that has taken her from him yet again. And he's so close, he can feel it. Just around that corner...]

I know she's out there. And I'm going to get her back.

[Sam is going to keep walking, keep pursuing that thread that will lead him to Jessica. Resistance will be met with incomprehension at best, an assumption of collusion with the enemy at worst.]

[ Right. He's obviously one of the cursed today, so — not the right time to cash in on those hugs, then. ]

Yeah, good luck with that. [ It comes out slightly more acerbic than Amy meant, but he's searching for his girlfriend and Rory's gone and she can't even believe that he's still here during a curse day. ]

[Dawn doesn't like the sound of this. It makes her more worried for Sam than anything since Dean had mentioned that Jess may have gone home before. But she's going to try to keep her tone of voice less with the worry and concern and more with the everything is okie dokie.]

Heya Sam-Sammy-Sam-Sam... what's the what? You look like you're on a quest for the holy grail, or maybe a cheeseburger. Cause there are some times when my craving for a cheeseburger is way more necessary than anything holy grail-ish.

[The vague sense of the words comes through, even if the sentiment doesn't. Sam smiles beatifically.]

[He speaks vaguely, already moving.]

If there's anything I've learned in all the plural of apocalypse that the Scooby Gang has been through, it's that there's always time for food. I mean if you're doing anything holy grail-ish then you need provisions for the treking and the questing and the... grail-ish-ing. How are you going to fuel yourself. Determination only gets a Slayer so far... or even a you and a me.

[Sam frowns vaguely at the screen.]

You're trying to stop me. Tempt me. Is that is? So I'll lose sight... [He's basically muttering to himself.] They can look like anyone... anyone...

Okay first of all, I'm not a they. I'm Dawn. And second, if I had any temptation powers whatsoever I'd use them on something better than food. Like maybe that puppy I always wanted that Buffy will never let me have or maybe a ban on all apocalytic type thinge from happening ever again.

[Yes, she's trying to distract you, Sam. And yes, she did just equate getting a puppy with a lack of apocalypses.]

[He shakes his head stubbornly. The demon was offering him transitory things, comforts of home. Didn't it realize he had given them up long ago?]

Why are you pretending to be all mind-ready with me? I want you to have a cheeseburger and think about where Jess might be. Then we can form a plan and figure carry out the plan instead of walking aimlessly about without a plan. Plans are better than no plans when you have some time to make them.

[Stubborn Dawn is Stubborn.]

[Someone else is also stubborn. Sam shakes his head, his hair flopping into his eyes.]

It's a trick. I won't fall for it again. A distraction... You're not her.

[And with that, he turns the video off. It hasn't been Dawn he's been seeing, not really, but a demon cooked up to stall him from his true goal. He didn't see Jess die this time, after all. He can still find her.]

Right, yeah. Welcome.

[Once Dean sees this on the network, he's going to hunt down Sam, not necessarily to stop him but more to make sure he's okay.]

Sam! Sammy. Hold up a sec there.

[Sam seems not to hear him, walking forward in a determined, but very deliberate way. As if sleepwalking.]

[Dean will double-time it to catch up to Sam, slapping a hand on his shoulder.]

Hey, Sammy, where you headed?

[Sam shrugs it off, fluid but inexorable.]

Either help or stay out of my way, Dean.

Never said I wasn't going to help. If you can find Jess, I'm all for it.

[He knows it's a curse but he's not going to argue with Sam, not today.]

Fine. Then try to keep up.

[Sam just keeps walking, towards that rainbow only he can see. He knows it's close, just around the corner. Of course, when they get there... it's just a little further.]

I don't know why they took her again.

[Dean's right alongside him, walking fast to keep up. He's watching Sam though rather than this rainbow they're trying to reach.]

Because the City's a dick and that's what they do? There's not any other explanation, Sam.

[Sam turns, certain that, with the rainbow just ahead, the end has to be to the right or left. He chooses right.]

Doesn't matter. They won't keep her--I don't care what they want me to do.

Let's wait to start talking about deals when we find her. Maybe they'll just let you take her.

[Dean doesn't believe that. He wouldn't if he thought there was a chance in hell that they'd actually find Jessica.]

[Sam snorts. That's never how it works. If Dean's going to waste his time with stupid suggestions, he doesn't need to be nice about it.]

You're one to talk.

Never said I was. I'm just telling you to ask nice first.

[Hell, if it were real, Dean would make a deal for Jess before Sam ever had a chance.]

You don't have to tell me what to do. I know what I'm doing.

[In his head, it all seems so clear. Follow the rainbow. Find Jess. Why is Dean saying these things? Sam keeps walking, and while there aren't any impediments, it becomes clear that he's not inclined to stop. Or notice when he doubles back, covering the same ground. It's a wild goose chase and he's incapable of recognizing it, or stopping for food or rest.]

Hey, not trying to rain on your parade here.

[Yeah, Dean notices what they're doing. He'll just follow Sam around 'til midnight and then just make sure he's there when his brother realizes this was all a curse.]
