[ Pepper's walking downtown, shield maiden-slash-roommate in tow. Already they've got a couple shopping bags on them, but they show no sign of stopping their retail therapy trip any time soon. ]

Hey, Charlie, Pepper here. Sif and I are out shopping for the apartment and whatnot, you're more than welcome to join us if you want.

[Charlie's grinning, evident as anything in her tone.]

Okay. Sure! I'd love to. Where are you two?

We're over by the fountain right now, taking a break. On reflection, four inch heels were not the smartest choice. Definitely hitting up a shoe store at some point this afternoon.

I can be there in twenty. I just got home from work so I need a few minutes to get changed out of clothes that don't smell like coffee. See you then?

Sure! We'll stick around here so you can find us easier.

[Charlie shows up 19 minutes later, grinning and waving at the two. She spots the bags and raises her eyebrow slightly, amused and impressed.] Wow, you two've been out a while, haven't you?

[he might be trying to get some of his own clothes so that he doesn't keep stealing people's tee-shirts. but so far, he's just been buying flannel and jeans...]

Sif likes to get started early.

So, you're the expert. What are the best places to shop around here?

[ Pepper spots Thor trying to decide between blue flannel and red flannel and decides it's time for an intervention. ]

Ohh, Thor. Oh Thor no. No, come here.

[ Not even stopping to think about the fact that this is the first time they've met in person, she takes the shirts out of his hands and pulls out some better options. After eyeing him for size (looks like she'll need the biggest they've got) she starts loading his arms with item after item. Denim shirt, purple tee, a nice light plaid, a silk charcoal gray shirt, an olive pullover, a sweater for the colder nights... ]

Here, why don't you go try these on? Oh, and this too! [ She mustn't forget a leather jacket. ]

If it's kitchen stuff, sure. I'm the expert. There's a place two streets over from the coffee shop we went to that sells high end kitchen utensils and things for decent prices. They even sell a couple window garden kits I've been meaning to pick up. The place we went for shoes is also fabulous.

As for clothes? [Pepper, Charlie's a jeans and t-shirts girl. Nothing that actually flatters. It's really more for function and less than fashion. She needs some serious help.] Though if you're looking for custom made, talk to Cinna. I think he's by appointment only, but he's amazing and so creative.

Sounds great. A few of my kitchen things disappeared with the sand, plus Sif says Thor's a big pop tarts fan, so I definitely need to pick up a new toaster.

[ Don't worry, young padawan, Pepper will have you looking feminine fresh in no time. She's already imagining Charlie in sapphire blue tea length sundresses and nice magenta tops to set off her hair. ] I might take this Cinna up another time. For now, though, let's focus on necessities.

Some of the kitchen stuff can be pretty whimsical. It's neat. [Meanwhile her kitchen looks like something from a farm.

What...what...a dress? Charlie doesn't know how to wear a dress without feeling completely nude. This is going to be interesting.]

[while she does this, Thor is just standing there a little dumbfounded. He was fine with the clothes that Jane picked out for him....]

A whimsical kitchen sounds nice. Though I'm not sure Sif knows the meaning of the word whimsy, so we might have to make some compromises.

[ That's okay, Charlie, dresses will get more comfortable with practice. ]

Let's head for the kitchen supplies first, then we can decide what to tackle next.

[ Jane sounds like a very smart girl, but it's clear to Pepper that her fashion sense is somewhat lacking. Somewhere between the leather jacket and the designer jeans, though, Pepper slows down enough to notice Thor's expression. ]

Oh. I'm sorry. I'm going to fast, aren't I? [ She blushes and tries to take a few items back, even though it's clear a guy his size has no problem holding a half dozen shirts. ] I should let you decide what you like. But-- no flannel. You're a Norse god, not a lumberjack.

I was mortal at the - [yes, she's going far too fast. these seem very .... thin clothes compared to the others.]

Then again, I was wearing another man's clothes.

[ If he wants thicker, he'll have to speak up. She's not a mind reader. ]

Well now you can have your own clothes. And they can be anything you want. [ Except flannel. ]

Was there something wrong in what Jane picked for me? [because really she can do no wrong in his eyes.

Well, no, not exactly. They're fine for comfort, but not really the most stylish.

The main thing is that you can make your own decisions now, rather than have someone else choose for you. [ Which is exactly what Pepper was just doing, she knows. ]

These seem like strange clothes for one to wear.

Okay, I'm sorry, let's start over. [ She takes all the clothes she pulled out for him and drapes them over the rack by the fitting rooms designated for clothes people didn't want. Sorry, shopkeepers. ]

Sure, flannel's good. Comfortable, warm, matches both denim and khaki, but what if you want something more formal? It's always good to have a range of clothing options.

In Asgard, were there ever occasions where you had to dress up? Like a fancy dinner or gathering? And were there times when the weather was particularly cold or hot, so you had to wear something different to accommodate?

No, not at all. We merely wear our armor everywhere. [sorry pepper.]

Okay, well, here we ...don't.

Take me for example. [ She gestures to the clothes she's wearing: floral tee, skinny jeans, comfortable shoes. ] I love this outfit. It's perfect for an afternoon out shopping. But I wouldn't wear it to work. It's much too casual. At work, I'd dress more like that. [ She points to a mannequin dressed for business, black blazer and pencil skirt. ]

It's sort of... [ Here comes a very flimsy simile. ] My outfit, and your flannel shirts, are like the armor you wear normally, worn in and comfortable, showing signs of use. A suit is more like armor that's been buffed and polished that you would wear for something important, for a ceremony or something. Does that make any sense?

Oh, I see. Well-- [he picks up a random article of clothing that Pepper had picked up earlier.]

Should I see if this is suitable?

Go ahead. [ He may not get it, but he's trying, which is something. ]

The most important thing is whether you like it.

[he goes into a dressing room, getting his Chris Hemsworth on before emerging and realizing that he doesn't feel like the Thor that was on Earth, really.]

[ Dayum. Boy is fine.

Pulling herself out of ogling mode, she takes his elbow and guides him to the three-way mirror, smoothing out wrinkles and making the clothes fit right. ]

It fits great, and looks wonderful on you. But what do you think?

It is ... comfortable. [He supposes that he can fight in this. It just feels strange to be out of Asgardian armor for so long.]

[ He shouldn't have to fight in it. That's not the point of fashion, Thor. ]
