1st spell ~ [Voice/Action]

Gaius, are you--

What?

[Merlin freezes, hand slightly reached out as he had only just been pushing a door open, and blinks owlishly because this is certainly not how it's supposed to look after he left his room. No, there should be tables, and shelves with so many books and potions and ingredients, and Gaius's bed somewhere.

Not... a city? That doesn't look like anything he has ever seen.

His first thought is that it's magic of some kind, and he slowly steps back, warily, as he glances around.]

Erm... What just happened?

[He doesn't get to see quite so much, though, because his feet collide into some edge (it's what he gets for not looking in the direction he's walking) and then he's falling and--

--and then he's wet, because with a yelped "whoa" and a splash he falls into some body of water (the fountain, in fact).]

((OOC: Because apparently falling into the fountain is tradition and I couldn't possibly resist.))

[Charlie's at home, sorting through groceries and getting things pout away when she hears splashing coming from her device. It's picked up and--

Merlin, when you find the device there will be a redhead staring at you from it. For now, she speaks, hoping the newcomer is capable of following her voice.]

Would you believe you were kidnapped by a pocket dimension?

Hang on. I know where you are. I'll be right there. [And on Charlie's end, the device switches off. She'll be walking up a few minutes later, short redhead with an arm full of towels. She holds one out to Merlin when she's within range.]

Here. This will help.

[Charlie takes his hand, shaking lightly. She might feel like she has a very mild fever. It's normal of her to feel this way. He gets a smile when he introduces himself, almost disbelieving him for a moment and just thinking his parents had a love of old legends when they named him. She's going to be so surprised when she discovers this isn't so.]

Charlie. Short for Charlene but I'd prefer just Charlie. Welcome to the City.

[ Liam jumps, skidding halfway across the fountain to avoid the splash. He can't afford to risk his coffee you know!

Pushing his glasses up high on his nose, he looks down at Merlin and... oh. It's him. ]

Here, let me give you a hand. [ He'll just set his coffee far, far away from any potential back splash first before dong just that. Fountains are tricky things you see. ]

Yep. Boring name for a very....eventful place. [That's the understatement of the year. Merlin, be happy you were not here when the place turned to sand and glass. That was nuts. And bullshit. Charlie's especially firm on the 'bullshit' opinion.]

I think the name is meant to lull people into a false sense of security.

Neither do I. [Small shrug.] Probably helps that it looks like an ordinary City. And whatever you were doing before here? You'll get back to it eventually. Right to the exact moment you left. Time works differently here.

Yeah. [She'll just go with that. Since for her, it's not reassuring at all. She settles on the edge of the fountain, glancing at the towel for a moment. She almost wants to offer to dry it off, warm it up again. But she didn't want to freak out the newcomer.]

Fair warning, Merlin. Since I don't want any of this to come as a surprise. This place, whoever runs it, they like to drop random curses on people. Mostly harmless ones. But then there are the more problematic ones that usually end badly.

[ Liam dries his hand off with a handkerchief pulled from some deep pocket of his waistcoat; he's used to being ignored, you see. ]

It's a curious thing, isn't it? [ Why, it almost looks like Merlin's never seen it before... ]
haring_to_go: (yes of course I'll do your work)

It's a phone. [ he tucks that handkerchief away and pulls out another one, proffering to Merlin. ] Here, it's not much, but you can at least dry yourself off a little bit before you catch a cold.

[Someday, Merlin. Someday. She'll show off her pyrokinesis.]

Huh. [She pauses, watching him for a moment. This place really does bring in Everyone from Everywhere. Fascinating.]

Notice the ticking sound, yet?

[It is absolutely nothing, Merlin. Do not worry yourself about it. She gives everyone that look.]

It's the City. It's a psychic ticking sound. In your head. [For emphasis, she taps the side of her head a couple times, smirking slightly.]

Best way to keep it quiet? Socialize. Make friends. Get a job. Get a pet.

[ he nods, humming thoughtfully as he tried to wrap his brain around the easiest method of explaining this strange new technology. ]

Are you in the habit of exchanging letters? The phone serves that function but it can be done instantly and with immediate feedback. Of course, you can also talk to them directly or even face to face without even being in the same room.

[ he frowns ] It's inner workings are still a mystery to me though. [ Despite all his research, he still couldn't make heads or tails out of it. ]

... we definitely need a fence around that thing. Welcome, I guess!
