[A woman is wandering around the square, immaculately dressed in clothes that will seem old fashioned to most residents of the City. She's keeping a close eye on a boy of about 7 years of age. Friends of Jimmy Darmody may recognise the boy as his son.]

[Ruby's initially excited by the sudden influx of people into the City, but then decides to just ignore them and not get her hopes up. It's not like anyone she knows will show up, she tells herself, more to avoid disappointment than because she believes it a complete impossibility. She'll be found around the City during the day, or at Lucky's in the evening.]

[He barely notices the woman, because his eyes are on the little boy. Older than he'd last seen him, certainly, but he'd know his son's face anywhere. Time has passed for Tommy, obviously, time that Jimmy wouldn't have been there to see, but he's here now.

He approaches as quickly as he can, limp more pronounced than usual -- the weather's been bothering his leg lately -- and calls out.]

Tommy!

[Julia's head turns when she hears someone call Tommy's name, her eyebrows raising a little in confusion and alarm as the boy's face brightens, recognising the man limping towards them and running over to him.]

Tommy! Don't wander off.

[trenchknives]

There you are, kiddo. I was wonderin' if you were gonna visit again.

[With some effort, he bends down onto one knee to hold his arms out for Tommy, wanting nothing more than to wrap him up in a fierce embrace and ruffle his hair.

He's still barely noticed the woman, although he does recognize, after a few moments, that she must be looking after him. He'll figure out why and how later. Right now, he just wants to hold his son.]

Wow, it still looks the same.

[ It's been a while since he was here last, he can tell. It's been a while back home, too. He's surprised by how nice it is to see the City again.

That's why he spends all day just wandering. Stopping by in shops, and cafes and restaurants for food, bars and pubs or whatever you like to call them for a drink (maybe he's entering your business), just for the sake of it. All the while he looks for familiar faces to say hello to.

At one point, he stops by a big house - his old home - and after a moment's hesitation heads for the door and knocks. His hand is itching to open the door, but he doesn't actually know what's changed and if anyone still lives here at all.

By the end of the day, he'll have walked across the whole city. Night's fallen by the time he drops down on the edge of the fountain and takes a breather. ]

[There's a small red haired little girl running about today getting into everyone's business. She's friendly and talkative. She's got a princess doll with her. The doll has a sword and the clothes are covered in... blood?

At times she does appear to be trailed by an adult.

But other times she's just off wild.]

[Ceilidh came into Lucky's with Theo and a few other people. She's a bit hopped up on sugar currently and bouncing around. When she sees Ruby she bounces over to her with a smile.]

[Ruby can't help but grin when she sees how cheerful Ceilidh seems.]

Well, hi there. ...Aren't you a little young for a casino?

I'm with them.

[She points over to Theo and some adult red heads. One of them glances over at her as if checking up on her but then goes back to what he's doing.]

Theo says you're a singer. My mum is a singer. And my uncle Rory, but uncle Rory isn't as good a singer as my mum is.

[She stands back a little, arms folded, watching closely. Tommy doesn't seem to be objecting, so she'll let this carry on for the moment - she doesn't get the same toxic feeling that she did when Gillian approached Tommy, for instance.]

[trenchknives]

[He finally looks up at her, smiling a little, unsure of what to say. He's still got Tommy wrapped up in his arms, but now his eyes are on Julia.]

Did you, uh... did you show up with him?

[andhunting]

I'm his guardian.

[Her voice is a little tight, though polite.]

[trenchknives]

You're his...

[He relaxes his grip on Tommy just a little, so that he can sit back on his heels and look up at Julia.]

I'm his father.

[andhunting]

[She steps forward, placing a hand on Tommy's shoulder, her tone a little colder now.]

His father has been dead for three years.

[trenchknives]

Yeah, I...

[He swipes a hand across his eyes, like he's wiping away tears, but his eyes are dry.]

I know. But it ain't like that here.

[He reaches down the front of his shirt, pulls out the dogtags that he always wears around his neck, holds them out to her as though offering proof.]

Believe me, I got plenty of questions, too.

[Guess who just thumped down on the fountains edge with a very familiar dragon in her arms? She's just waiting patiently for him to notice her. Affinity, however, is not. She's tugging at his sleeve, grumbling and growling playfully. Hey, Merlin. What's up?]

[So much for waiting. She's never been good at that, anyway.]

[ Spock shuns the city's communicator, and instead opens his own to a wide band frequency to offer a greeting. ]

I would be grateful if someone would care to direct me toward an individual in a position of authority.

[ And then on a closed, emergency Starfleet frequency a hundred years out of date. ]

[ Spock can be found nearby the fountain tinkering with his Starfleet communicator. He's still dressed in this flannel monstrosity, though the band has been lost and it's drenched from top to bottom. It's fortunate for the sunshine. Were it earlier in the month, he would be shaking by now, unaccustomed and unprepared for the tumbling temperatures.

Also he was just in San Francisco Bay, clinging perilously to a crashed Klingon Bird of Prey. Don't ask. ]

[ He doesn't need the dragon to tug at his sleeve to notice Charlie. He'd know her presence anywhere.

He takes a moment to pet the dragon, and then moves the hand to grab one of Charlie's. ]

You think that's possible?

[If she's with Theo that makes it a little better, although she's glad that it's not too late for things to have gotten rowdy here.]

He's right about that. [And the connection of music has her smiling a little wider and patting the bar stool next to her, for Ceilidh to join her. If it's all right with Theo for her to be in the casino, she doesn't see that sitting at the bar would make that much difference.] What sort of music does your mother sing?

[If anyone is going to make things rowdy it's possibly the red heads. They have a standing credit at all the neighborhood drinking places for damages. Ceilidh herself is no slouch when it comes to a fight either. But Ruby doesn't know that.

[She climbs up next to her with a doll that takes a third seat.]

Irish folk music. Lots of looong epppic balllards.

[As if no time has passed at all, Charlie leans in to kiss him briefly.]

The place is under new management. One can hope.

[ the fact that he's been here before should bother him, but it doesn't. the fact of the matter is that admiral james kirk has been through stranger in the past twenty-four hours than he did the last time he found himself on the city's doorstep. and at least this time this place has the decency to ask before ripping him from his-world-but-not-his-time. it was a complicated matter, likely less complicated than the goings on here, but a matter he would rather get back to seeing to than wandering around aimlessly, unsure of whether or not he wants to run into his younger, alternate counterpart again.

because that had gone well, as had— wait, is that spock? his spock? ] Oh, thank God.

[ speaking to the other spock hadn't gone too well, either. both men — himself and spock — had seemed vehemently against the mere idea of him for reasons he both understood and not. it was the strangest thing, but he supposed being aware of him and then meeting him was much the same for them, too. jarring, at the very least. ]
