There was a man, a mad doctor, in London who was fond of collecting the eyes of young women and preserving them in jars.

Perhaps he did mean to use those eyes at the end as part of an arcane black magic ritual.

And yet, all the same--

I never in all my life thought that I would come to understand him so well as I do now.

(Knows exactly who you are referring to. During said doctor's previous City stay, Luke assisted him in adding a few to the private collection.

Attractive blonds, who wear glasses and white quite well, talented with sharp objects, and have similar interests - of course they would be friends.

He's been wondering whatever became of that collection after Jezebel exited. Disappeared? Or did Daddy Dearest lay claim to it? (DD most likely did). Luke didn't have a chance then to snag a memento to remember the good doctor by, so he's closely watching this post in hopes that maybe....)

Yes, so I've heard.

And I've admired so many very fine pairs of eyes--especially here in the City.

There are a number of beautiful pairs, I will confess that.

I've a pair of blue eyes in mind at the moment--the sort of colour that a poet might compare to the very colour of heaven.

But there was a young lady from my own world who was here for a very brief time. She had such very dark eyes--like obsidian. I think of them from time to time as well.

Both sound stunning in their own ways. Glances from eyes like that could steal your breath away.

Honestly, I've always preferred eyes so blue they could be like sapphires themselves.

And very easily too.

Yes, and those as well. I recall my cousin, Suzette, had eyes just like that, blue as sapphires.

Did she now? The queen who stole my heart had eyes like that as well.

Did she? Therein lies a tale, I think.

As you please, then. But she sounds like quite a remarkable woman.

There is no one like my precious queen. Though, I have seen another come close and what a blessing that she had the same eyes.

Having an understanding surely doesn't equate to participation. I can understand many things without having done them.

Can a person not suddenly gain some greater insight into the mind of another? By chance, by experience, by design, even by pure rational consideration, it should be entirely possible.

Very well, then: by reason and by consideration. It is possible to come to understand a person by simply thinking. How else could novels and plays work?

I don't read. [She's not illiterate exactly, but she's never had the opportunity nor the inclination to read for pleasure. She watches movies with her brother, but they mostly just make fun of the completely ridiculous fighting styles and ignorance of basic physics. The emotional content of stories, how people feel, how they relate to one another, is largely lost on her.

The idea that you can come to understand another person through stories about fake people is strange to her. Human beings are irrational; how can you use rational means to comprehend them?]
