He's dangerous with or without his powers -- Heaven's War was the blood-splattered whetstone that sharpened him into a monster, while he was still a human. But this is like seeing with unnerving clarity that Korra seems to have two parallel ideas of him. One of the two-faced opportunist, his worldview channelized by icy ruthlessness and electric shocks, and the other of ... this playmate who tumbles around indulgently with her. He wishes he could tell her they're the same person. That it's unwise -- foolish -- to forget his ability, which is as much a part of his nature as a sea anemone inverting its array of toxic spikes. But he doesn't want to ruin the moment. She's nervous enough. ]

[ Instead, he finds himself absorbed by the sculpting of Korra's bones beneath her shoulders. Traces them with the pads of his fingers, before sliding an arm around her. He nestles her against him, her head tucked into the crook of his neck. Murmurs, into her hair, ]


Should I keep going?

[ There seem to be threadbare patches in her psyche -- restitched to hide recently-ripped holes. He could prod them further, but he'd rather not if the price is too high. ]
