I'm afraid I don't recognize most of those terms. Here in The City, the only viable communication method is the device in your palm. You can also attach messages to birds or winged beasts, but the device seems to be a quicker and less messier method.
As for how it works, the buttons have different functions. I am most familiar with the one to record a message- [ She points to it on her own key pad. ]
And the one to turn the device on and off.
